Hey that design has six curves, six words and six icons. Is there a hidden message here?Kolohe wrote:for dhex:

This doesn’t offend me as an American; it offends me as a graphic designer. That is a rough-looking pile of clip art. But if the seven fonts and eight colors prove insufficient to scare away the jihadists, State also has a blog post outlining their strategy to defeat Islamist terror solve violent extremism...

They should release it as a hi-res wallpaper and bundle some spyware in the download.
Re: Ooh, pretty! Graphic design
I've got a burr under my saddle wanting to redesign the church's bulletin announcements insert. It's currently the classic Wall O' Text where everything and anything gets put. Hoping to cut down on the amount of info and come up with something that looks appealing, but also all flows together so each week I can add or drop announcements without having to totally rejigger the whole layout.
I've done a few drafts and everything is either a ton of work, or all heavy boxes and terrible looking (that's the Ellie Special ™), or both.
Also I keep getting bogged down in tiny details instead of drafting the overall look.
I have tried Pinterest and the rest of the interblag for some design inspiration, but I'm not sure what to search for to find similar projects. Looking for actual bulletin announcements either gets dusty church clipart monstrosities, or "we're not a regular church, we're a cool church!" evangelical bulletins with a big blank page for sermon notes because their service is 85% sermon (WHERE IS YOUR EUCHARIST, YOU FUCKING HEATHENS).
Just complaining I guess. I'm not super great at design and that makes me mad at myself.

You might find something you like by googling "episcopal church bulletin templates" and poking around some of the links.Ellie wrote:I've got a burr under my saddle wanting to redesign the church's bulletin announcements insert. This week's annoyance: our exterior banners. I think this is a very stupid picture to use to advertise this service, but my boss loves it.

Plus I kinda feel like theres a thing you might want to evoke on a poster or album cover or something such that it has a bit of a purpose. There is no purpose for comic sans. Not ever not in any context.

This is why not everyone is cut out (no pun intended) to be a designer. Stressed, blessed, coffee, and obsessed?

There's a paid speaker at the church where I work, a professor from a nearby college, talking about ways the Bible has been used in arguments for and against immigration. It actually seems like an interesting talk. But his Powerpoint slides are ALL IN COMIC SANS wtf

Re: Ooh, pretty! Graphic design
One of the projects I've been assigned for April is to refresh all the bulletin boards around the church where I work. I do not feel like I instinctively know how to make bulletin boards look good, and so far the internet is no help to me. E.g. I google "professional bulletin board" and get something like this. I swear people think it's illegal to put together a bulletin board without cut-out letters and scalloped edges.

Re: Ooh, pretty! Graphic design
Since professionalism is the new boring, try searching "cool [church] bulletin boards". There are some decent ideas floating around out there.
