On one of my copies of Word I can't get the "normal" style to default to TNR, although I did get "no spacing" to do so. It's always making my eyes bleed until I remember to change styles.

I really wish browsers could force font settings. Also wish Gmail would still let me set the default font to serif.

True, it's Calibri I detest. Got Ariel confused because it used to be the default in .ppt. Those rounded stems, those horrible rounded stems.

calibri is ok in all caps as a header, far less so in any other form. cambria or whatever the default serif happens to be is actually nice for body copy.

univers is a nice choice; i think you'd get some subtle old school keyboard pings out of people old enough to notice but not fontsensical enough to actually realize.

I did my thesis in TNR or something like it, with some sans-serif font for headings, etc. They made me change it to goddamned Courier. WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK, GRADUATE DEAN'S OFFICE?

You can mistake a fixed-width font for a proportional-width font? Seriously, they wanted it too look like I'd fucking typed it. I'm astonished they let me justify the margins. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a particularly big fan of TNR, but it's not as godawful as Courier.

All of us in the legal world are ossified in TNR 12 pt., except for the Ohio Courts of Appeal, which require TNR 16 pt. because they are all 90 years old, apparently.

TNR is a bit jarring when you see it in business emails these days. At least in my world. Looks like you trying to be formal to an off putting degree. I don't deal in formal documents or correspondence much though. Presentations and emails is how business gets done, the we send stuff to lawyers and contracts people and they ossify the terms in TNR.
