I've only read his sci-fi stuff.

I am intrigued. In what way does this hatred manifest itself?

I'm not exactly a pen collector, but I own several other, as they say in the ads, "fine writing instruments" and I've wanted a Parker Duofold fountain pen since way back when. My handwriting is bad enough to have been a physician and there really isn't much call for me to do much handwriting anymore, anyway, but there is something immensely and irrationally satisfying about writing with a really good fountain pen. It's also something one has to get used to or, if old enough, used to again because fountain pens do not require pressing down on the paper as ballpoints and most other writing instruments do so you have to have a much lighter touch.

Again, totally unnecessary and I love it!
And now I have two! I think she probably forgot she'd given me a black Parker fountain pen back in 2013, but my wife has now given me a "Big Red" Duofold. Fountain pens are per se retro, but this particular pen in this particular color was extremely popular in the 1920s. Will I use it much? Probably not. But on those increasingly rare occasions I wear something approaching business attire, I'll certainly put it in rotation with my two other high quality fountain pens.

So now that I play guitar and bass, my wandering eye has turned to some of the smaller, cheaper electronic drum sets available on CL, because why not learn to play the drums too? There's one in particular that's highly rated, the drummer in my band owns one, and the price is right, although it is way the hell out at the far end of Brooklyn.

My march of higher quality headphones has taken another step. First pair with ANC and I am impressed. A little too much bass. I don't know why Apple can't put an equalizer in their audio stream.

Oculus Quest 2 showed up under the tree.
Was able to get through the tutorial.

Hope I can find old geezer apps to run on it. The VR world is very cool.
But I got a little nauseous and almost lost my balance a couple times.

Losing sensitivity in the vestibular system - the inner ear system that helps the body determine its orientation and sense rotation in space - is legitimately a problem as one ages. It's one of three systems that help us keep balance, along with visual orientation and ... crap I forget the name of the sense of knowing how your limbs and body are positioned relative to each other. I think kinesthesia. *googles* Yup. The body typically relies on all three, but usually any two can make up for low performance from the third.

VR is gonna be bad because it makes sight unreliable if not unusable (depending how well the VR simulates a horizon or other reference for what is 'up') so you need input from the other two. Tough for us what's not in the under- 40 set, and tougher as you go up from there.

Even minor head injuries can put it out of wack. mrs lunch has trouble with it since she banged her head into the car window in a t-bone crash a few years back. Mine is slightly diminished by my anti-seizure med.

My inner ear is fine. That is the problem, when what I'm looking at doesn't match up with the accelerators in my ear I get motion sick.
I lose my balance because the nerves in my feet are dying.

I'm probably going to fork out for Saber Beats full game. The demo is pretty fun.

Warren's going to be the next omotea!

(I've really just been wanting to share omotea videos somewhere, they are really really good at Beat Saber)

I'll google omotea later. I'm now wondering if there's anything geezer enough for me. I want to pick my own music.
I'm not fond of disco and hip-house is fucking noise that I can not abide.
Why can't I get some good swing music like Sing Sing Sing or Flying Home?

Watched Mulholland Falls, and in looking up the *real* star of the movie, discovered that that curvaceous beauty is for sale, alas at $99k a little too rich for my blood.

Splendid idea- I'll have to keep in in SoCal though, I mean we couldn't risk it getting damaged by tornados ;)

I impulse-bought a $155 3D printer. https://www.creality3dofficial.com/prod ... 3d-printer

I have absolutely no idea what I will do with it, but I'm pretty sure if I told '90s teenage me that I turned down the opportunity to have something called a "3D printer" in exchange for a quarter of one paycheck, I would have murdered me and created a rip in the space-time continuum.

I'm so jelly.

I'd pick one up, but I've got no where to put it. Cleaning out the garage is on the list this year. So maybe.

I should buy a drone.

I just realized I don't know where I'm going to put mine. I have literally no idea how big it is. Is it like a desktop inkjet printer? A treadmill? A chest freezer? A large boulder the size of a small boulder? Hoo boy. It didn't even occur to me to think about it having, like, physical form or dimensions of any kind. Talk about the dangers of shopping on the internet instead of in person.

According to your link it measures 440*410*465mm. And then there's tools and supplies that will need a home.

I'd never buy this but it makes my design dick hard
