Paloma Faith's dramatic, tortured cover of..."Sexy Bitch".

Oddly, I'm actually preferring Case to Cave in this particular song.

Re: Good Cover Versions
If I recall correctly, a few of you here have at least some interest in the classic psychedelic period, roughly 1966-70. Vanilla Fudge was a huge presence in that genre and covers of "You Keep Me Hanging On" (probably their most famous), "Eleanor Rigby" and actually just about every cut on their first, eponymous album are worth a listen. Admittedly, it all probably sounds better with a bit of medicinal marijuana.

Somehow, I managed to avoid learning of Vanilla Fudge until very recently. I blame radio formats.

I enjoy this, though I don't know if I'd call it "good."

In the same vein, one of the best one-off albums ever (along with Layla and Blind Faith) was the 1968 release of Super Session, still one of my all-time favorite records. I consider their "Season of the Witch" the definitive version.

Trigger warning: hipsters. Not a keyboard in sight, though.

(I picked one-and-only-one example from a G+ post some time back where I trawled Youtube for good covers of this song. Brits LOVE to cover this song, but most of the well-done covers are horribly over-faithful.)

I posted this once before in another thread, but I still like this very distinct cover of one of my favorite songs:

Not that there are tons of Shriekback covers out there.

No Billy Holiday, but a good cover even if the Latin jazz bridge is, well, novel:

And this is, IMHO, pretty much a no-brainer for this category:

Pomplamoose seems more and more like The Bird and the Bee every time I hear them.

Judas Priest's version of "Green Manalishi" was mentioned on the other thread, but there's also their excellent version of "Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez.

Johnny Cash does indeed need to be mentioned.

Oh yes, I forgot about that one. The version you posted above is a slowed-down variant, though. The one I remember hearing is this one:JD wrote:Judas Priest's version of "Green Manalishi" was mentioned on the other thread, but there's also their excellent version of "Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez.

Ah yes, that's the famous one. I didn't realize I was posting the slower (apparently newer) version, just assumed.Stevo Darkly wrote:Oh yes, I forgot about that one.
