Hal Holbrook, 95
Re: This is the thread for people who died, died.
There was a great anecdote he supposedly said in an interview recently. When he started doing his Mark Twain show, he spent 2 to 3 hours in a makeup chair before going on stage, but as he got older, all he had to do was put on a wig and he was done.

I thought he died a few years ago! Not in the general "oh, [elderly celebrity] was still alive? Huh" kind of way but like I have really specific memories of people posting their fond memories of Sound of Music and stuff. Total Mandela effect here.lunchstealer wrote: ↑05 Feb 2021, 15:09 Man I thought Plummer had passed sometime in the last few months.

In a strange turn of events I can actually answer this: the SBTB crew stayed close, except for Dustin.Pham Nuwen wrote: ↑01 Feb 2021, 16:20 Oh god!!! Is mr belding okay? What about zack? Kelly? Slater? Ffs people! I need to know!!!

It's Corea (probably autospell?) but, yeah, that's sad. Great musician. I own a number of albums, two or three of his and many more where he sat in on piano.lunchstealer wrote: ↑11 Feb 2021, 17:40 Chick Korea.

Derp at spelling. Not so much autocorrect as not paying attention to what I was typing.D.A. Ridgely wrote: ↑11 Feb 2021, 19:57It's Corea (probably autospell?) but, yeah, that's sad. Great musician. But yeah. Once someone breaks maybe 75 it's more melancholy sad than tragic sad when they pass, but definitely a light that's not in the world anymore.

Objectively, Limbaugh was the prototype for Trump. Yes, there were prototypes for Limbaugh, too, but these two profited enormously by being in the right place at the right time as they rode the waves of media and mass communications change. Limbaugh was, first and foremost, a clown in the pejorative sense of that term. A bigoted, hateful clown, at that, but I think he just stumbled onto his audience as AM radio was otherwise dying and he was probably as surprised at the magnitude of that audience and the political clout it gave him as Donny was decades later. Anyway, trying not to speak ill of the dead, but the world is not a worse place without Limbaugh as it will not be a worse place when Trump takes the dirt nap.

I only ever heard him because I was handed down my grandmother's '77 Chevy Nova, from the era in which if you wanted your radio to pick up FM you had to pay extra for that luxurious privilege. There just wasn't anything else on during the day (night of course was for listening to financial advice from Bruce).D.A.
