Piffle. He's not even in the top ten. How could he be famous for anything? He's not even American.

David Prowse, AKA the body actor in the Darth Vader suit (as opposed to James Earl Jones doing the voice acting part, for which he was paid far less in Star Wars than Prowse, as was customary for voice actors at the time, although apparently that changed for Empire and Jedi).

Are there any children of Civil War veterans still receiving benefits?

I recall a piece in the Nation in the 1970s pointing out that pensions for Vietnam vets and their dependents would likely continue well into the 22nd century.

Somewhere in either that Twitter thread or a blogpost talking about that Twitter thread said the last person getting survivor benefits (who was a kid of vet(?)*) did pass away a couple of years ago.

*or maybe a just a kid of a widow. Not sure how the qualification worked back then. Though some of these guys did get married and have a kid in their 70’s, which for a vet birthdate of 1840-50, would make the kid born in the 1910’s-1920’s so would be old, but reasonably so to have passed away in the 2010’s.

Neil Sheehan, traitorous bastard and enemy of the United States. The Times has an interesting story about how he overworked copy machines and burned evidence in order to publish the Pentagon Papers and protect his reluctant source.
