He just doesn't go hard enough into the whole naked attention-seeking that Dawkins does, who appeals better to the sort of atheists who like to see themselves as brave freethinkers for not being religious... even if they live in the UK.

I like both Dawkins and Harris (I liked Hitchens more). I want more in-your-face-atheism because in-your-face-religiousity is so prevalent in North America. I want an end to White House/Congressional Prayer Breakfasts and politicians who cite their 'devotion to gawd' as part of their pitch.

FFS, the driving force behind the anti-abortion crowd is the religious fundamentalists and the Roman Catholic church. Same for the anti-gay-rights movement (though Pope Frank backed off that just a couple of weeks ago.)

I really liked Dawkins. I took a casual interest in his feud with Gould. After Gould died is when Dick holstered up his holy war guns. I watched him speak to a Christian College audience when he was pimping The God Delusion. He was Brilliant. Then I read the book and I was less impressed.

Then I think his mind started slipping. He started just barking belligerently, especially at the Muslims.

I want less in-your-face anything. Dawkins is a prat Old Scientist and a wannabe crusader. Again, he's a fuck who lives in the UK and whines about how the religious are allowed to exist and so oppress people like him. (When he's not showing an almost Trumpian lack of empathy by mocking clerical sexual abuse victims or the like.) Also, he made me understand the atheist case for having an official religion, given he was taught in schools by priests and yet has a remarkably dim and simplistic understanding of Christianity and religion in general.

Harris is just...kinda dull.

And the driving force behind the anti-abortion movement is Team Red, because they picked an issue to focus on and use for branding in the 70s by whipping up the people who disliked abortion but weren't really very concerned about it, much less the raving fanatics they became in a generation. Otherwise, it'd barely be a thing in the US.
