Who's the Blue for #2? (2020)
Who's the Blue for #2? (2020)
With the Team Blue field narrowed to Biden and Sanders, what are your guesses for who the VP choice will be? (Biden has already said he will pick a female running mate, but I don't know if his memory will function well enough to recall that at convention time.)
You can pick 2 choices. You may change your votes.
Some strengths and weaknesses in those I have listed.
Stacey Abrams
Strengths - black, female, from a purplish state.
Weaknesses - known activist, may rankle some blue collar blues.
Cory Booker
Strengths - black, already in Senate.
Weaknesses - ???.
Peter Buttigeig
Strengths -'middle america' appeal.
Weaknesses - GAY - sorry, don't think 'Murica is ready to elect a gay president or vice-president.
Tulsi Gabbard*
Included this one for the giggles. The blue answer to Sarah Palin.
Kamala Harris
Strengths - black, female, experience in administration, currently in Senate.
Weaknesses - she's Californian.
Amy Klobuchar
Strengths - female, from a purplish state, currently in Senate.
Weaknesses - annoying AF.
Beto O'Rourke
Strengths - almost knocked off Ted Cruz, proven campaigner.
Weaknesses - ???.
Elizabeth Warren
Strengths - female, currently in Senate.
Weaknesses - WONK, also annoying AF.
Marianne Williamson
Strengths - female, currently in House of Representatives.
Weaknesses - she's Californian. Also "Who?".

I think some of the weaknesses you have ??? above are:
Cory Booker: Weakness - uninspiring, couldn't get any traction as Prez candidate, brings no support with him.
Beto O'Rourke: Weakness - Lots of name recognition and oversized dislike on the other side. Loud anti-gun perception brings turnout against him.

What does it mean for a Texas politician to be anti-gun? He doesn't carry his gun with him while drinking?

I'll be a bit surprised if Biden picks any of the senators who ran against him if only because it opens a senate seat. Yeah, MN, CA and MA are unlikely to go red, but it's just another seat requiring resources as the Dems try to get a majority in the senate. Let sleeping senators lie, to coin a phrase.
I'd give Stacey Abrams a look for fairly obvious reasons, but she still hasn't held any significant political office, never mind whether she won or lost in 2018. If Julian Castro could deliver the Latino vote, maybe, but he got like zero traction. Same with O'Rourke not counting his almost momentary rise in the polls, but if I were to go with a Texan, I'd go with Castro. Buttigieg is the Dem's future, or so goes the conventional wisdom. He may get a cabinet post but, yeah, teh gay.
I know an unhealthy number of social conservatives who are scared to death and therefore making fun of the possibility of Michelle Obama running. It ain't happening, it's just a sign of the persistence of the far right's hatred for all things Obama and Clinton. Terry McAuliffe has to be on at least the long list of possibilities.
Castro or Abrams or, more likely, someone I haven't mentioned or considered.

Castro's twin brother is in the House of Representatives, which could lead to endless wacky hijinks. I hope Diamond Joe picks him.
But, yeah, it will probably be somebody who isn't on the radar. I mean, who thought Tim Kaine and Mike Pence would be the VP picks in 2016?

Re: Who's the Blue for #2? (2020)
Stacey Abrams in addition to not having held a meaningful office is too easily painted as a sore loser for not conceding. It's fine red meat, but whining about the loss for months and months after the election (whether or not the complaints are valid) turns a bunch of people off and is a rich line of attack.
Tammy Duckworth would be an interesting choice.

My most unpopular opinion is that Tammy Duckworth is overrated. I mean, she's fine, (and showed skilled escaping from the maw of being Veteran's Administration poobah with her reputation intact) but in a way, she's the John McCain of her side - a political career that only got of the ground in the first place because her aircraft returned to the ground way too quickly.

Judging by the lefty twitter that I end up seeing, the answer is a definite yes.

Lefty twitter wanted Bernie, too.
Moderates might quash her chances, though. The optics are deservedly shitty.
Of course, if this means Harris is veep, that's just kind of darkly hilarious.

Oh yeah. Already have to eat a Biden fueled believe women poo sandwich, piling on with the racial policing bonifides of Harris would be amazing. Perfect for our time really.

When is the convention when they officially pick the candidate? When will Biden announce a running mate? I could Google but I'm lazy

Supposedly there have been tons of edits on Kamala’s Wikipedia page in the past week or so. Traditionally, there is a flurry of edits on the Wikipedia page of the person that is named VP
