I'very been just running a wet bar of alum over my skin, lately. It's been surprisingly comfortable, and if I have any nicks, it's less painful and more effective than styptic pens I've used.

I'd never heard of this before. I'm intrigued.

I bought this stuff, but to my knowledge, it's all the same stuff, which works as an astringent. After I shave, I wet the block and run it over the wet, shaved skin. (If you let your skin dry after shaving but before using the alum, throw some warm water on your face/neck. Otherwise, it won't slide smoothly.)
