Re: I may want to see that?

I'm not proud of myself for falling for such an obvious nostalgia cash-in, but otoh Leverage was an excellent show.

Re: What are you reading?

I love my kindle paperwhite except for one thing I hate about it. It's a touch screen and there are no physical buttons. So you have to hold it by the slim little bezel and if your finger strays the least little bit over the line, it turns the page. And if you wind up on some random page it can be ...

Great news for the " well if the state has to murder people... " crowd Frustrated by the lack of drugs available to carry out lethal injections in their state, South Carolina lawmakers are on the cusp of a controversial solution: forcing death row inmates to face the electric chair or firing squad w...

Just so we're all on the same page, neither of you is using the word 'normal' to refer to the way things were prior to March 2020, right? Because currently I am required by state order to wear a face mask when I go to Target, which was not the case 14 months ago or any time before that. And we're g...

Re: Infrastructure

There's no way that new rail lines go directly to "the city center" in places like NY or LA. Plus, what would that even mean? I don't know that much about LA (I've only been there twice, both more than 30 years ago), but it sure looks to me like LAX is 'in the city'. Where's the center of the megap...

The neverending lockdown of the American progressive Some conservatives refused to wear masks or stay home, because of skepticism about the severity of the disease or a refusal to give up their freedoms. But this is a different story, about progressives who stressed the scientific evidence, and the...

Re: Dreams (not those crushed by the weight of unfulfilled life)

I was dating a tall, beautiful woman with short blonde hair and implants. We were staying with at her family's house in what was ostensibly LA, but felt more like back east. We had planned to start looking for a home of our own and I initiated lovemaking by telling her she would make an excellent St...

Auckland man spraypaints dicks on potholes to get them filled faster According to Stuff, the potholes often remain unfilled despite Upson’s drawings. They would usually get fixed, however, whenever the phallic graffiti became the subject of media reports. A spokesperson from Auckland Transport said...

You should never penalize people for the books they read/own. Plenty of people have read Mein Kampf without agreeing with it. It's possible that they want to understand the Trump phenomenon from the perspective of Kool-Aiders, in which case they are people you should very much want to befriend. If t...

I would have thought having sex with your SO would have been one of the few recreational activities people would enjoy more often during a lockdown. OTOH, without parties, I suppose people would tend to be less uninhibited and take more precautions. It's entirely possible that people are boning mor...

It's abundantly clear that yelling (or clutching your pearls or clicking your tongue) at people showing vaccine hesitancy about how stupid or ignorant they are does not do anything except harden their opinion against getting the vaccines. It's really something that people should be backing off of i...

In the waning days of the Kickstarter, they are doing Zoom-style group watches of classic episodes. Tonight they did Warwhilf with Joel, Jonah, Bill Corbett, Hampton Yount, and some other guys. It was fun to watch them reminisce, laugh at old jokes, and freestyle new riffs. Joel is a tough audience.

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

The original Overboard with Goldie & Kurt wasn't very funny, but it was kind of sweet. The biggest issue was the loosey-goosey pacing, which is fine if you do it to let characters breathe, but it felt more like they were stretching scenes to pad the film.
