Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

Kumiko the Treasure Hunter. Finally someone had the courage to make an indie movie about a mentally disturbed loner who teaches us about the absurdity of modern life through lots of languid long takes and awkward silences.

Looking forward to them announcing that the certified totals were correct within a slight margin of error and that Joe Biden is the duly elected President of the United States.

Re: Star Trek Wankery

The biggest problem with Code of Honor is that the aliens are all black. If they had been all white, or mixed, or just randos with forehead prostheses, it would have been a forgetably anodyne story about the barbarity of honor codes. The way the casting (and costuming) happened, it's really hard to...

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

The funding strategy for UBI would have to be broad tax base - if it's ongoing forever expenditures it requires broad base to support. That means something like VAT or payroll tax or middle of the distribution income tax. If you just redesign it as a wage support anti poverty measure like negative ...

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

UBI is pure redistribution. It all but assumes raising taxes on high earners well above their current levels, historical averages, or high water marks.

The Nuge has the Cove Musician Ted Nugent said Monday he tested positive for COVID-19 and had been experiencing intense symptoms, though he’s called the pandemic a “hoax” in the past. In December 2020, the 72-year-old entertainer dismissed the global coronavirus pandemic as “scammy.” Monday, he cha...

Interesting oral history of MST3k: The Movie from the people who lived it. I didn't know that they had been kicking around the idea of the movie since around season 3, and that it was creative differences around the development of the movie that led to Joel's departure.

Cyrano Jones. Two episodes and you're done, plus you've watched one of the best known and best loved episodes of all the ST output. Three episodes. You're forgetting, or more likely (for a poser like you), unaware of, TAS: More Tribbles, More Troubles. For my money, if you want a guest character, I...

Re: Star Trek Wankery

Did you curate it yourself? I did. The problem with asking about story arcs is that's not really how Star Trek works. There's no overall plan or endgame for the Klingons or the Borg. They are adapted to the needs of the story, and the tastes of the writers. The closest thing Trek has to a story arc...

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

Night Moves , a vague noir that predates the Bob Seger song by a year, and has nothing in common with it. It's a strong candidate for the ultimate 70s movie. Everything is grainy and grimy and gross. The plot was vague and meandering, the dialogue was at least 50% non-sequitur and none of it devote...

Maybe this could be the beginning of a new tradition. Every Sept. 11th could be a day for the federal government to try and fix something they fucked up. Dissolve the TSA, demolish the border wall, slavery reparations, release FBI surveillance files, the list is endless. This country loves its dumbs...
