Re: Random musings

It's still TBD on whether, post-covid, mask-wearing (whether all the time, or at least when you're coming down with a cold) will remain A Thing in America and the west, the way it already was A Thing in much of eastern Asia.... Here in America, where vaccines are now readily available to almost any...

Really, at this point I suspect mask-wearing would be breaking down without the vaccines. Having to wear masks and be careful clearly wears on people's minds. I'm probably as pro-mask as anyone here, but I agree with Eric. I am getting tired of taking precautions and can't wait to stop. Aresen, any...

Walmart, Sam's Club drop mask rule for fully vaccinated customers and employees after CDC mask guidelines Practically, this means no mask mandate whatsoever, because I doubt Walmart is going to ask anyone entering without a mask for proof of vaccination. It also means a sharp increase in 'values si...

Re: Dreams (not those crushed by the weight of unfulfilled life)

Skipping irrelevant portions... I was awoken due to annoyance with a person in my dream. I was shouting at her, "You know what you are? You're stumb. Don't be stumb!" I don't think I'd ever combine "stupid" and "dumb" in waking life, but I kinda dig it. 'Stumb' could be a nice neologism. We could d...

I occasionally have vivid auditory dreams that segue into full wakefulness. Last night, I dreamed I heard the message chime on my phone. I got up, thinking 'who in hell would text me at this time?' There was no message. It was 1:22 AM by my phone display. --- The actual dream it woke me from was eve...

I suppose I should respect Liz Cheney for her stance against the Trumpers, but then I look at the policies she actually supports.

Firing squad is actually probably more humane than lethal injection. It's at least instant, as opposed to "minutes to hours of blood boiling pain for the sake of making it look peaceful." If they wanted a humane method without the mess, they would have gone with a massive overdose of fentanyl. I th...

If 'normal' means 'exactly the way things were at the beginning of 2020', that is never going to happen. Primarily because behavior is going to change. 1) A large fraction of people are going to decide working from home is better than commuting to an office. 2) The same applies to shopping from home...

A common criticism of Ayn Rand is how unrealistic her characters are, so it seems funny to me when people are now attacking Pfizer, Moderna and J&J for making profits on the vaccines the public was begging those companies to produce just a few months ago. Biden, AOC, Warren and the rest of the blues...

I would have thought having sex with your SO would have been one of the few recreational activities people would enjoy more often during a lockdown. OTOH, without parties, I suppose people would tend to be less uninhibited and take more precautions.
