Re: The Glooming of 2024: Return of the Knave of Orange

A scary analysis of how the Reds are likely to play in 2024. https://thetriad.thebulwark.com/p/reading-the-republican-autopsy January 6 was just the warmup. I find this overblown by a decent margin. I would have said the same a year ago about the events of November 3, 2020 to January 8, 2021.

Re: The Glooming of 2024: Return of the Knave of Orange

If Donald the Orange returns in 2024, I'll have to come up with a sequel. He ate the polonium-laced burger at the end of my play, so I'll need to think of how to bring him back. Maybe the witches summon his shade. Or Prince Donny undertakes a quest for revenge at the behest of his father's ghost. Z...

The Glooming of 2024: Return of the Knave of Orange

As requested. A thread about whether Trump will return and dominate the 2024 election.

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

It's early days, still. And one of the definite problems of relying on the yokeltariat for support is that they just don't have deep enough pockets, what with tithing to the local big box church and the ever rising price of crystal meth. If corporate contributions really do start to dry up as long ...

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

Based on the evidence, Trump still has the GOP firmly on a leash and is not going to let go.

Based on the EC, the GOP has a built in advantage of 3 - 5% over polling data. Much as I hate the idea, Trump could be sworn in again on Jan 20, 2025.

I know the 'plant trees to memorialize the dead' thing does happen, but I'm not sure if it applies in this case. It's popular with environmentalists to have a tree planted on top of the dearly departed, but I don't know if its roots are Jewish. I have no idea how to even tell if a tree is circumcis...

It's hard to come to grips with, but it's just possible that the post-Trump Republican Party will be even further removed from even a nodding acquaintance with reality. https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1380687221771100164 I agree with her. Re: Brexit: what say ye?

Hell, CO's then-groundbreaking MJ legalization was something that I wholeheartedly supported and I felt like prohibition was a massive civil rights imposition, but I feel like that 55/45% vote with an almost 11 point margin with the decimal points was important for making prohibitionists not be bit...

Eh, not so much. The measurement very clearly disagrees with previous theoretical calculations, to a degree that edges close to physicists' standard of statistical significance. (Not to be confused with social scientists' standard of statistical significance.) However, last summer a very good group...

I've been checking the news in the r/brexit subreddit -- holy crap, Britain is fucked. Though I do confess to some schadenfreude reading about various Britons who retired to Spain, voted for Brexit, and were then appalled to discover they can't live in Spain anymore. But I feel very sorry for the B...

It seems to be some kind of law of the universe that if I put on a clean pair of pants, I will spill something oily on it within the first half a day. At horse shows, pristine white breeches are required. Of course, the first thing your horse likes to do is wipe his lips covered in green slobber fr...

Presumably they can recoup the losses from the bank account you have there. You are assuming there is anything in the account. Re: Is the ACLU getting too Woke?

I find the case for postal banking in the "everyone gets a checking account" sense pretty compelling. You're right that asking the post office to make loans is pretty crazy. But they can replace check-cashing services without replacing payday loan services. You really have no idea how many bad chec...
