Let's just ask the most important question: Does he meet the diagnostic criteria for brain death?

(Granted, the first two also applied to Cain.)
Goddamnit, I'd bought the misinformation that he had colon cancer at the time of his COVID diagnosis. He'd HAD colon cancer in 2006, but it had been in full remission since 2007.

Six obvs knows better, but the biggest diagnostic I'd expect an EMT to use in that circumstance would be a portable pulse oximeter.

I think the Regeneron makers said he was one of the first ten patients who got access under the new EUA.

And another report said that he got a combination of treatments including regeneron and two or three other drugs that had never all been used in the same patient, even in stage 3 clinical trials. He literally broke medical ground, but sure it's no big deal and we shouldn't be afraid of it.

I haven’t actually seen the footage, but I’ll take a look when I get a chance. In general, though, in (very) rough order, the signs of respiratory distress are:
1) Tachypnea-Simply, unusually rapid breathing. It may also be deeper than usual.
2) Posturing-The patient may unconsciously lean forward, which can help open the airway. When it’s really bad, you’ll see what’s called tripoding, where the patient sits in a leaned forward, elbows or hands on knees position.
3) Shortened sentences. This one is actually one of the better early indicators. If the patient can speak in full sentences without having to pause or gasping for air afterwards, they’re usually doing fairly well. Being able to speak in only two to three word sentences is quite worrying, and one word at a time is full on “oh shit, drive fast” territory.
4) Belly breathing/accessory muscle use/supra-sternal notch retractions-these are usually late signs, but before those show up, you might see the neck muscles at work, and unusually deep chest rise.

Those are general guidelines, and after a while, clinical judgement becomes about a gestalt impression. I’ll check back in when I’ve had a chance to watch.

The pulse ox can be useful, but they’re also fairly unreliable, although the tendency is to read lower than actual SaO2. But with respiratory stuff, the wise medic is going to look at the whole picture and try to anticipate and treat for what’s coming next.

I would be perfectly happy if he had permanent cardiopulmonary damage/disability and would smile quietly to myself if he died of respiratory failure.

It was enough to make "gasping" trend on Twitter for a significant while.

I have read secondhand, on-the-internet speculation (so take with sufficient grains of salt) from people claiming to have some degree of medical knowledge/experience, that the steroids his docs admitted he was on do or can have temporary "energetic/euphoria/manic" effects, which might explain his intense-even-by-his-standards tweetstorm afterward -- but also end in a crash.

Here's a tweet with one of the longer videos -- though not the scarier "backstage" video I saw IIRC on reddit. In THAT one, I thought I saw actual fear in his eyes.

I can’t speak to dexamethazone, but I do know that the one time I was prescribed solu-medrol, I couldn’t finish the scrip. I became extremely edgy. As in hair-trigger, batshit crazy overreaction to nothing in particular edgy. After a couple of days off of the stuff, that went away. It’s a known thing with steroidal drugs.

ETA: After looking at the video, I think it’s clear that he’s having a hard time. It’s not the sort of breathing that would cause me to go into oh shit mode, but I’d damn sure be putting him on at least a couple of liters of 02. And I would be willing to bet that they did so as soon as he went back inside.
Overall, it looks like what you’d expect when an obese man who is dealing with a nasty respiratory infection tries to climb a set of stairs when he should be doing no such thing. It did grab my attention that even after several minutes, he was still working way too hard to catch his breath. I couldn’t tell for sure, but it looked like there was some belly breathing there, and his rib cage was certainly moving a lot more than it ought to be.
Second ETA: I just watched it again, and noted that he looks like he was able to get 3-4 words out before having to take a deep breath. That’s a concerning sign. It’s still consistent with what I’d expect from a fat guy with a lung infection (or COPD) who was climbing stairs to play Il Commendatore when he should be busy trying to recuperate.

What a bunch of assholes. This is, frankly, what you get when you've been way too hands-off with a community in the past and basically told them that they don't have to listen to the civil authorities at all.
Hundreds of members of the Borough Park Orthodox community took to the streets Tuesday night, defying orders to disperse and lighting a fire in protest of new state-mandated restrictions imposed on area synagogues, schools and non-essential businesses over a COVID-19 surge.
...
“It’s called civil disobedience, we can fight back,” Tischler told the crowd after tearing up his face mask. “Do not allow them to torture you or scare you,” he said, referring to the elected officials.
...
The protests swarmed in numbers later in the night, with demonstrators shutting down 13th Avenue to vehicular traffic.

Things also turned unruly when the crowd lit a rubbish fire after midnight at the intersection of 46th Street and 13th Avenue and chased away two city sheriff’s deputies who responded.

I got a Covid test yesterday to be on the safe side before moving to stay with my friend. I was expecting them to jam the swab all the way back to my brain but they just wiggled it in each nostril. I've delved deeper for boogers.

Pretty sure the default assumption now is that women move back home after college because they can't find a job that will pay the rent, roommates or no.

I would feel bad for this person's friends given they think so little of their friends but it's likely they just don't have any.
