When someone makes a creme brulee that's about 85% carmelized crust, come get me.

Jason, we can do this. I share your awesome dream. If only we could assemble a team of ragtag chemists, foodies, and restaurant staff who could devote time to crowdsourcing a synergistic food rampage, we could create the perfect creme brulee and bring the world to its knees with it's sugary puissance.

If you can find them, maybe you can hire...the brulee team.

Y'know, I can understand and respect (for all that I disagree with) someone who says things like "Socialize the food supplies so nobody has to go hungry," "socialize the energy supplies so nobody freezes in winter," or "socialize medicine so nobody has to die of easily treatable things." But "socialize social media so users don't have to see ads" deserve not even the slightest pretense of respect. Jesus Christ, no.

What the fuckityfuck. I've never heard of them. Like Jennifer suggests, hungry poor people latching onto an ideology that ruins much but promises them food and shelter is one thing ... Columbia grads and the OWS set latching onto similar ideas so they can follow Rachel Maddow while taking a shit has to be the least sympathetic incarnation of that fundamentally stupid idea in the history of the world. You bunch of entitled fucking babies ...

Yeah, we totally should have socialized MySpace, cause then it wouldn't have gotten horrible and everyone defected to Facebook where they're now defecting from to twitter. It would have been so much better to all still be with MySpace. Yes, they're monopolistic... until they aren't, because something else comes along. Wait a second, that's exactly the opposite of monopolistic. What a dumbass.

That's the first time I've ever read something and thought Rand's "Looter" epithet was the only fitting description. I always thought 'looter' was silly and overwrought, but I can't think of a better term for someone who wants to nationalize something as trivial as twitter just so he can control it to work the way he wants.

What I find astonishing about Rand's villains is how their words - or at least words to the same intent - keep appearing in the mouths of "respected" politicians and pundits.

I read Atlas Shrugged and thought 'nobody could possibly sound like Wesley Mouch' and then I'll read something by Chris Matthews or Rachel Maddow.

And yet, the absolutist response of Rand's 'heroes' always struck me as silly in the other direction. This is the first time I've really sympathized with the type of reaction you'd see from Rand's protagonist. I mean, holy fuck, guy. Talk about wanting something for nothing. I guess my critique would be along the lines of Jennifer's. I can understand a morality in which socialization of the food supply, medicine or treatment, housing, transportation, and maybe even some basic communications, make sense. I don't agree with it, but I can understand it. But someone who thinks that Facebook or Twitter would've happened and had the investment they did in servers and coding and feature-enhancement if they were run by, say, the USPS.

Reason on Austin's proposed fast-food restaurant restrictions:
Specifically, the ban, or "Healthy Food Zone ordinance," would restrict fast food restaurants from locating anywhere near "schools, municipal parks, child care centers, libraries and recreation centers" in the city.
It's funny how these never go the other way. You never hear of anyone proposing a ban on building a school or library or park within 1000 feet of an existing fast-food restaurant, bar, or even a known residence of a registered sex offender. Nope, we establish a thousand special-little-snowflake exclusion zones and expect adults and adult activities to move accordingly.

I kinda think this.

Socialism is socialism. Why exempt social media? Just out of fear of being called a pampered elitist of something? Give those guys some fucking credit!

I kind of see it like there was a period when means of production socialism was a serious thought, then the calculation problem and everything since transmogrified the instinct into something where a vast majority of lefties were more social democrat kind of creatures where they wanted a reasonably robust private sector to fund all the goodies they then would hand out. One of the makes me want to punch some nuts features of the OWS era is that these entitled douches are resurrecting language the left was correctly ashamed to utter for a few decades. I've had many a discussion where I'm hedging against the easiest reading of road to serfdom - where I'm the guy saying no look these guys want trains and healthcare, they have no interest in commandeering the means of production like real socialists.

Little did I suspect a bunch of fucking Columbia grads could take to the street asking for the public to eat their student loans and guarantee them jobs and jazz hands and now it's not all that shameful to talk about nationalizing fucking twitter.

That is the dumbest goddamn shit I have ever read, and I've read some pretty goddamn dumb things. I figured there had to be something like that floating around, because lately I'd seen some comments on various message boards like "Well, I'm not in favor of socializing social media like some people..."

On a related note, I am so fucking tired of self-congratulatory "like"-bait shit like the comments I keep running across like, "I once met this investment banker who told me he didn't know anyone who works 90 hour weeks like he does, and I said what about farmers? and he totally didn't have anything to say to that. That's right, some people have real jobs, not just talking all day." I guarantee you the person who posts stuff like that a) has no idea what investment bankers really do, b) doesn't work 90-hour weeks himself.
Beep boop, you silly humans.
