The Reckoning was a strange, low-budget, little riff on Get Carter.

Great directors have different elements of genius. Greenaway, even at his most subdued, was a master of colour.

I'm probably not the first to say it, but Star Trek: Beyond is beyond stupid. 25 minutes in, I'm tempted to bail.

Huh. Everyone said it was the good one. The most Trek like.

I really enjoyed it. There were a couple of dumb bits, but that's what's required for Hollywood. In general, the writing felt much more Star Trek. Which isn't surprising given Simon Pegg wrote it.

It was entertaining enough for a half price ticket. The cast is still as good as you can hope for for a reboot.

I found the character development stuff in the beginning and end the best part. The whole action-y rescue mission in the middle was crap.

It's competition includes Into Darkness though.

I bailed when they got down to the planet.

Was I missing something or did they do Chekov's funeral before the character actually died? (But no doubt because the actor actually died?)

You often watch venerated films that have out of focus shots or even whole scenes. If there's an out of focus shot in a Michael Mann film then it was damned well there for a reason.
