For bits of trivia or interesting facts.

For example, Huey Lewis played harmonica on some early Elvis Costello albums.

My son is on an RMS Titanic kick. I learned recently that one of the 4 smoke stacks was fake.

Yes. I stopped listening about halfway through when I realized Huey Lewis got it right the first time.

OJ Simpson is 64 years old. I had no idea he was that old.

So wait, one of the smokestacks was a controlled demolition? Who would gain by framing the iceberg?

The Czar's secret police. It was supposed to be an adjunct to the Protocols of Zion: "Rosenberg, Goldberg, Iceberg: all the same!" But then the revolution happened and the new Jewish head of the secret police quashed that propaganda.

A little while back I learned that the British and the Soviet Union cooperated in invading Iran (an explicitly neutral country) during WWII, a minor part of the war that doesn't really get mentioned except in exhaustive histories, and this was only part of a history of Britain and Russia/the USSR agreeing to screw Iran. That goes a long way towards explaining the "pox on both their houses" attitude that Iran has had. (Also, not surprisingly, the Soviet Union tried to set up puppet states in the areas of Iran it occupied; the only surprising thing is that they didn't last more than a few years.)

That's the private one in Ohio (near Nick Gillespie).

Many if not most schools named after cities are private and usually Roman Catholic.

University of Pittsburgh (aka "Pitt")
University of Cincinnati
University of Toledo

That is not taking into account all of the ones that have "State" in the name accompanied by the city (e.g. Bowling Green State, Cleveland State, Columbus State).

But yes, good rule of thumb and point taken.

Other oddballs:

Rutgers and Clemson - both state land-grant universities that sound like private schools.

University of Pennsylvania - a private school named like a public. Penn is private, right?

Learned something new: the a cappella version of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner was the first song ever converted to MP3.

I apparently have no idea how many calories basic foods contain. Whole wheat flour has more than three times as many calories per ounce as raw chicken? What the hell?
