Agree. What's a 'bracket'? What's an 'NCAA'? What's a 'basketball'?

I make my picks based on team mascots, so I know nothing about any of the teams. I think I won one year doing that.

My tiny alma mater is currently ranked 20th in the nation going into the tournament. This is not a situation I'm used to.

What's an 'NCAA'?
Undemocratic and highly corrupt college sports league that exploits students and places money-making ahead of true and pure competition. NCAA football actually rewards teams for past history and their school name (also a perpetual cycle of racial discrimination in hiring). Preseason polls, commercial exploitation, Title IX, academic cheating, and coaching scandals are just a few of the unsavory aspects of the NCAA.
What's a 'basketball'?
The ultimate expression of sprotsball.

I tried, but I appear to have completely screwed up, since I was a) not able to generate a name, but was assigned a dumb one and b) not able to select anything (or isn't the option available yet?)

(When I figure it out, I will probably select my teams based on arithmancy. I would prefer to use gonadomancy*, but the information is not available.)

*gonadomancy is a system of predicting the outcome of (male ) sports. It involves measuring the size of the testicles of the players: The smaller the testicles, the more steroids the players have consumed and therefore the greater likelihood they will win.

The selections can't be made until after the participating teams and their seeding order are announced on Sunday, so no you're not screwing anything up on that front. I can't help you with stupid names tho. Especially since I intentionally chose 'lunchstealer'

This is true, because I just looked and apparently my name for bracket purposes is 'Dave-O-Rama'.

Still not much help with the stupidity, though.

I'm done. I have one ridiculous outcome based on vanity, a couple based on being kind to fellow grylliaders and other friends (although I also just bet on evil in some cases).

I picked a different team to win than usual (I always pick Duke, and they are exceptionally good this year, but every year my friend Keith and I pick an animal for the year - unrelated to NCAA - that is our animal for the year, so I picked the team with that mascot. My friend, who is the reason behind my loyalty to Duke, was like 'well a lot of people are going to be picking them, so you should choose a dark horse team' and I had to remind him that my choices are based on "who would win on a mascot v. mascot combat" and also, my friend lets her 5 and under children pick, so we are Not Serious. Now he has stopped sending me Scientific Betting articles, which was my goal.

I got to thinking about the odds of a 'perfect bracket' for someone who was extremely skilled at picking winners. It is very easy to calculate, but none the less interesting. For example, if you were able to pick winners 99% of the time, you have a 53.09055% chance of picking a perfect bracket. It goes downhill from there:

0.99 = 0.5309055
0.98 = 0.2800546
0.97 = 0.1467639
0.96 = 0.0763990
0.95 = 0.0394991
0.94 = 0.0202794
0.93 = 0.0103377
0.92 = 0.0052316
0.91 = 0.0026279
0.90 = 0.0013100
0.89 = 0.0006480
0.88 = 0.0003180
0.87 = 0.0001548
0.86 = 0.0000747
0.85 = 0.0000358
0.84 = 0.0000170
0.83 = 0.0000080
0.82 = 0.0000037
0.81 = 0.0000017
0.80 = 0.0000008

So Wofford's star player just broke the NCAA career 3-point record. Sure it's in the Southern Conference, but this just pushed their win streak to 31.

But that star's name is Fletcher Magee. The alumni page has been celebrating him all season, and I can't help but hear his name in 1920s baseball announcer voice. Fletchah Mahgee is up to bat, and boy is he gonna knock’m outa their knickahs!

And the part of the game I saw (middle of the second half), Markus Howard from Marquette was looking like a bad Kobe Bryant trying to outplay Morant. Jacking up terrible 3s, out of control drives, playing horrible defense.
