It's a waiver trade. These are pretty normal and happen every year.

Oh, so its a free-for-all until July 31, then a waiver system afterwards. Sorry, kind of a duh! question, but then again, I haven't really looked at baseball because my Buccos have been terrible for 20 years...

It will be the Rockies on the 13th. Good seats, too, so hopefully it will be fun.

I got to see my first Rockies win tonight. Also got to see Todd Helton almost hit #2,500.

EDIT: I also had my first experience with Rocky Mountain Oysters. They tasted like chicken, maybe a little nuttier.

I can start caring about baseball again...

Hey, how 'bout that? It took 20 years, but the Pirates finally made it to the real postseason...

Let's go Bucs!

And so the Dodgers become the least bad team to root for.

The prospect of a St. Louis-Boston World Series makes me glad I didn't pay attention to baseball this year.

Eh. Baseball is like a movie: the ending is very rarely the interesting part.

Holy crap are you saying the middle of the 9,435 games that last 8 hours each is the interesting part?

Maybe a meteor can hit during game 3 and we can be spared from having to hear about St. Louis or Boston next year.

I agree, although I'd prefer the meteor hit during game 2 since they'd still be in Boston...

I hate stats like "No team has won games 6 and 7 on the road in the World Series since 1979". That tells me nothing about how likely that is. How many teams have gotten to game 6 down 3-2 and playing on the road for the final two since then? One? Four? Ten?

This is one of the contributing factors to my general mild disdain for baseball. Some announcer will rattle off some ridiculous stat like: "This pitcher is 6-1 against left-handed batters at home during night games where it's between 64 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesdays in months that start with "J"...

But at least that gives you a sense of how many games that is (at least 7). What's worse is the "this batter is batting .500 against Cuban pitchers named Jose" and he's 1 for 2 against them.

It doesn't matter how large the representative sample is when the number of qualifiers so narrows the data to "prove" the desired facts. It's the manipulation of the statistics that bugs me...

Both baseball and football talking heads seem very prone to spouting "it's true until it's not" statistics (much like the stats about presidential candidates).
