Here's a good (IMO) article about the Roseanne reboot, praising it for being "more than just its politics; like most good art, it cannot be reduced to a single message."

https://slate.com/culture/2018/04/the-r ... itics.html
...Roseanne does reach out, directly, to white working-class people. Roseanne Conner’s vote for Donald Trump declares this, full-throatedly. At the end of the first episode, Roseanne makes peace with her Hillary-supporting sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) by refusing to apologize for bullying her about her candidate of choice. Roseanne is being ungenerous, but the moment is played for laughs. Roseanne’s stubbornness is often a source of amusement, and there’s the intimation that Jackie—who caved and voted for Jill Stein—is a sucker, a bleeding heart who doesn’t quite know her own mind. Roseanne’s vote, unlike Jackie’s, is not giving. It’s not flexible. It’s not willing to see the other side. I think it feels bulwarked by the presence of Roseanne Barr, a Trump voter and conspiracy theorist, who supplies Roseanne Conner with a bit of extratextual rigidity, a true believer’s lack of doubt that is probably palpable to and appreciated by many Trump voters.

But TV shows do not just blindly co-sign their lead character’s behavior. Breaking Bad didn’t think Walter White was good—even if some of the audience did. All in the Family’s Archie Bunker was a bigot, and the show knew it—even if some of the audience adored him. Roseanne’s writers and showrunners—who are no longer Roseanne Barr (Bruce Helford and Whitney Cummings haven taken the helm, while Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene, orchestrated the reunion)—have complicated the series’ perspective without rebuking or condescending to Roseanne Barr. As ardently as the Roseannes Barr and Conner may support Donald Trump, the series is grounded in this essential fact: Trump has made absolutely no material difference in the Conners’ lives. They have no better jobs, no better health care, just a family feud and, in a few episodes, an opioid addiction.

In the new episodes, Roseanne has a black granddaughter—who, like her father, D.J. (Michael Fishman), hasn’t been given much of a storyline so far—and a nonbinary grandson. Yates, Shapiro, and Gay all saw these characters as way to insulate Roseanne from charges of intolerance and racism. She may have voted for Trump, but she’s not bigoted—just look at her grandkids! It’s true that no one on the show has pressed Roseanne on this contradiction: How could she support Trump when he supports policies designed to discriminate and dehumanize her kids’ kids? But even as these children are giving cover to the prejudice inherent in Roseanne’s vote, they are doing something else: They are also communicating the series’ values, that tolerance is important, no matter who Roseanne voted for. If TV can influence us, can make us more socially progressive, as it did with Will & Grace, who’s to say there isn’t a Trump voter out there who will be kinder and more accepting of a little boy who wants to wear girl’s clothing because Roseanne Conner was? ....

I thought Trump was the one who ran for President to launch his own TV series.

The question I'm asking myself is whether this keeps Michelle Obama too busy to launch a political career, or serves as a springboard for a political career.

The series will be called “Game Of White Castle”. It’s about a family, the Demageryans, whose palace is usurped by Agent Orange, an evil magician from the Northeast despite the efforts of an old fire-breathing dragon, Hilrodinton, to keep Agent Orange away and their desperate struggle to get it back.

I enjoy Rocky and Bullwinkle stuff. I enjoyed the movie, despite the fact that I fully expected it to suck, so I'm going to give this one a shot at least. If I'm disappointed, I'll mentally throw it down the memory hole and go blissfully on my way.

For me the magic of Rocky and Bullwinkle is tied to the Jay Ward crew circa 1960. Attempts at imitation always fall flat.

Gary Cooper couldn't make it work, and I don't think the material will give Snyder the disconnected moments that he seeks to crudely arrange into scenes.

I kinda suspect Snyder might have been better as a comics writer.

I dunno, Howard Roark could team up with the Joker to bomb public housing, then flee to a valley guarded by super advanced technology in a DC/Rand crossover. Then they defeat class traitor Bruce Wayne, who uses his wealth and technology for selfless ends.

Clark Kent's parents need to be exposed as the selfless villains that they are, taking in a child who could perform extraordinary feats of physical labor and never once using him for economic gain. They just let the little looted grow up in their house and then go out and use his powers altruistically.

Capitalist Lex Luthor is the real hero here.

Roark vs. Galt will be epic. Especially when they discover that they both have a mother named "Alisa" and then team up to fight a monster created by a limousine liberal who's betrayed capitalism.

Wonder Woman contemplates bringing WWI to an early end but then realizes that weapons manufacturers are making a good profit off it and it would be immoral to interfere. Instead she goes to rescue Russian landowners from revolution (for a fee, of course), and ultimately helps a girl with literary aspirations escape from Soviet Communism.

This makes me think of "We The Living" as origin story- Wonder Woman swoops shows up at the end and deflects the bullets that killed Kira in the book. Kira and Wonder Woman bond as master and apprentice and Kira lives happily, even finding true love. Until Kira witnesses her true love inadvertently killed by a selfless act of kindness (let's make this a long chain of individually innocuous events, starting with Wonder Woman doing something harmlessly selfless), turning her into the supervillian we all know and love today.

Reboot of the MTV animated show Daria. Except it'll be Daria and Jodie. Who the Hell is Jodie? A minor character who was a black girl in Daria's school. I don't even remember anything about the character, and I watched a number of episodes of the show back in the Thoreauic Age.

Apparently, having her best friend be another middle-glass white girl is problematic. This, of course, just raises the question of why resurrect a property about a middle-class white girl in the first place, then try to change what it's about? If you're going for a young audience, nobody will care about a cartoon that was on TV twenty years ago, so why bother with the old property instead of just making a new show about two girls in high school? That is totally a thing you can do, after all; I know of no FCC limits on media properties that might appeal to or be about teenage girls. If you're going for the nostalgia audience, why mess with the Daria/Jane dynamic?

Goddamnit. I really liked Daria. Jodie was a regular on the show. Neither an advisory nor ally. She had ambition, was going places, making something out of herself. Which is why her and Daria didn't have much to say to each other. Woke middle aged Daria? No thank you.
And then there's this
In addition to “Daria,” MTV Studios will reboot “The Real World,” “MADE,” and the sci-fi anime series “Aeon Flux,” which will be remade as a live action show.
I'm sure that's going to work much better this time.

The funny thing is that all the reactions stem from a blurb in a press release. To be brutally fair, we don't even know if this show will even manifest, much less how bad it will be.

Well, elsewhere, I've found out that there's another market segment: left-of-center folks of Gen X and younger who find pretty much every element of the show objectionable. Alienated, sarcastic teen girl who isn't earnestly RESISTing, who's white and middle class and thinks her opinions have any worth? Not OK.

So, I suspect the only hope the show-runners have is actually managing to make a show that appeals to teen audiences. Good on them if they do, as that's probably the hardest market to successfully go after.

Based on the entertainment industry's moves over the past decade, I can only assume that Congress passed a law banning the creation of new IP in movies and TV shows.
