This Biden impersonation account is the greatest thing on Twitter right now.

While I agree and sympathize with the "chinese virus" criticism, the whole kerfuffle is getting a little tiresome, which is why I really like this alternate angle:

Yes, it originated in China, but the technical term is Covid-19

I feel like the media could dispel a lot of narratives about themselves if they'd just let the "Chinese virus" thing go and focus on other stuff. But anything with a racism angle is just a shiny object that they can't look away from, and it only reinforces perceptions that elites in the media and elsewhere are "too sensitive."

I mean, don't get me wrong, I do think there's some racist dogwhistling in Trump's use of the term. I also think that it is, sadly, the least of our worries right now.

That take made me want to fire her into the sun, because COVID-19 is the name of the disease caused by the virus named SARS-CoV-2*.

Yeah, but SARS-CoV-2 sounds too much like a lovable gay droid from Star Wars.

Naturally, Muphry's law strikes! Certainly the virus doesn't care what we call it, and as long as people know what they're talking about it doesn't really matter. For the layperson, the pedantry around it is absurd.

OTOH, I have Asian cow-orkers who have been yelled at in public and reduced to tears. It does matter to them, though I suspect assholes are going to be assholes no matter what the Prez calls it.

Calling it the "Chinese Virus" is absolutely appropriate. This thing is wreaking havoc upon the world because of the monstrous behavior of the Chinese government.

And not the Chinese people, much less Koreans or Japanese who live in the US, who also are catching the vitriol. Damnit Warren don't make me argue that side.

The problem is with the behavior of President Xi and the Communist Party.

Clearly the correct name is Winnie the Flu. (hat tip Sandy)
