"Rhodesia apologists?" WTF is that?
I walked into a nest of them after a post on a post that a friend liked from the "Being Classically Liberal" facebook page. People saying that oh no Rhodesia wasn't racist at all that was all leftist lies and also they couldn't let most of the black people vote because look at how shitty every other part of Africa got after blacks took over!

Admittedly when looking to see what the hell they were talking about it looks like Rhodesia was actually better off than a lot of places including South Africa and Jim Crow America, but holy shit no.

Remember how Dylann Roof had those Rhodesian flag patches? Yeah, it's become a cryptoracist buzzword for 'what happens if you let the blacks take over.' I kinda figured that shit would stay tucked away in a dark corner of Stormfront or some shit, not something I'd run into on Facebook on an ostensibly libertarian page that uses Milton Friedman as its cover photo. But apparently it's attracted a huge contingent of the Hellicopter Rides guys.

Ugh. Yeah, the "liberty only applies to white men" strain of libertarianism has been getting a lot more virulent lately.

there's always been a significant current of libertarian/conservatarian/conservative scoffing at the notion that colonialism was something more than a minor head cold. well back into the 90s, and likely before.

It's similar to the idea that 1800s America was close to a libertarian utopia -- even if you squint, you can only see that if you overlook everyone who wasn't a white man (preferably Protestant).

I seem the remember the 'Rhodesia was not that bad' thing floating around the edges of libertarian blogosphere when Zimbabwe's inflation crisis was at its peak.

I think there's a lot to be said for recognizing that unlike South Africa and even most of the American south at the time, Rhodesia did have black Africans in government, and there were black Africans in the electorate. But most blacks still didn't have the franchise (and some whites, too, as it was a property-based system) and the government was devoted to keeping it that way.

Ugh. I hate the "Republicans are the party of Lincoln" and it's corollary "Democrats are the party of slavery" arguments. It's like insisting that we 'toe' the lion. Yeah a thousand years ago that was true. But then the Kennedy's took control of the Democratic party and kicked out the Dixiecrats, and the Republicans adopted the "Southern Stratagey" and ever since have given at least tacit support and acceptance to racist fucks.

Why do you think the black electorate steadfastly votes 90%+ Democrat? Oh wait, I know. It's because they're too stupid to know what's good for them isn't it?

Or dumb. Or telling ignoramuses what they want to hear to justify their preferences. Probably that last one.

I think Trump Derangement Syndrome is really spreading across the right. I haven't really figured it all out, but they're so knee jerk in their anti-left thing that they are starting to apologize for fascists just to spite the left, and then drinking their own koolaid about it.
