If this were a work of fiction, I'd roll my eyes because the situational irony is about as subtle as a sledgehammer:

I'm moving my problematic worldview from FB to Twitter using the @HayLobos handle. I'm on my way out from all normal Facebook use and converting my profile to a milquetoast, curated profile for posterity.

How come? I use FB's privacy settings to enable more cancer there than I have on Twitter. It's less likely to escape into the wild and blow back.

Because my twitter is obscure and unlikely to be noticed by anyone who cares, because you'd have to look. Also, if you notice, more and more of the content here is from Twitter, and I only have so much time for social media. Might as well cut out the middle man.

The weird thing to me about talking about that kind of stuff on FB is why would you want to talk about that stuff with your fam and the people you went to high school with? Twitter is going to be people who are interested in it.

I totally avoid the issues of protests and cops on Facebook, mainly because one of my band members is a cop who is anti-protest, and I don't need arguments. Mostly, tho, on Facebook I don't say anything.

My twitter "brand" is completely different, so I don't say anything there about them either.

I'm not friends on Facebook with anyone I've not met in real life or on this hete board. Twitter I think I follow two people that I know in real life but are also not grylliaders.

Facebook is the demos though. I have some young bernie type friends and some conservative guns and cops type friends and some libertarian type friends on the bookface. If I want to say something that I think injects a bit of nuance here and there, I can hit those audiences. I hate my limited exposure to twitter but more generally get the sense that topic tags create perspective isolation.

I mean a different way of saying it is I don't know why you'd want to talk to the people you know IRL

ETA I mean talk "seriously" as opposed to just pretending you are normal

Oh ahh. I kinda see it as a version of sitting at the bar talking about stuff. The fact of a casual existing relationship cuts through the tendency to assume I'm a nazi when I talk about healthcare or whatever.

I'd post this in Light Laffs but since it's a twitter embed, I think I'll stick it here to keep them from cluttering that one up.

This is pretty much how I felt after walking into a nest of Rhodesia apologists on the bookface.
