It should have been the biggest story, what, 15 years ago? Since Snyder owned the team? Like one guy said, any time in the last 10 years he's walked up to the ticket counter at FedEx Field on game day, he's been able to buy a face value ticket. It was a story in the 80s and 90s. It was a joke in the 2000s. Thanks Dan Snyder for fucking up something else.

Yeah, it's been a farce forna while. Luckily for them, they declined just as the NFL was getting lax about blackout rules, so it was all able to be covered up with plausible deniability.

In seriousness, what is genuinely remarkable is that they sold over 20 thousand fewer tickets this openning day than last year which is a helluva cliff, and I got to think a wake up call omen.

The end of the Skins consecutive sell out streak should be the biggest story in Washington.
That streak came to an end a long time ago, probably before Cooke died. For a while, they just deep discounted seats to corporations / lobbyists / etc. until the occasional glimmer of hope started selling tickets to actual fans again. (For perspective, most Hollywood awards shows have fillers not just to fill the seats of stars when they're backstage waiting to present something but for the inevitable five percent plus of no-shows.)

I'm hoping against all my political convictions that D.C. gets suckered into building a new stadium down at the Navy Yard.

Further, Canadians themselves have their own variation of American football (they say it's based on rugby football, but they throw on helmets and padding) and most of them mean it or the American game when they say "football".

That was a drama job yes. I would say that in the grand scheme of things, lists of things to dislike about about Ben would not reasonably include "gets lots of questionable roughing calls". He could do that 30 more times and only be at 2/3 Brady.

Not sure what Brady's pathetic behavior has to do with Roethlisberger being a piece of shit.

It’s that if you are talking about crying for and getting roughing calls he isn’t a notable piece of shit relative to the league not just Brady. He doesn’t get those calls overall.

I would say, relative to his style of play, he gets more calls than others. Cam, Wilson and Kaep (pre-kneeling) never got those calls even less. But, he’s better than Brady, the Mannings or Ryan.

One guy who shockingly never got calls was Warner. But that may be due to the fact that he held on to the ball way too long. That guy was a brave, idiot gunslinger.

Roethlisberger trades on that idiotic "I play real, smashmouth, lunchpail footbaw, no matter how banged up I get" mythology that a good-sized subset of Pittsburgh fans eat up with a spoon. So yeah, it does make him worse than someone like Brady, who is at least as bad but who is at least straightforward about playing the refs like (in football terms) a wuss.

Yes he’s a drama queen but yes he takes hits and doesn’t get calls in the AFC north that many other qbs have never had to face.

Cam Newton both gets hits that are just as bad, and is much, much less likely to get calls. Plus, when Cam pulls this crap, the media rips him a new one. Ben, not so much.

The NFL Broke Former Players Like Me. Here's One Way To Fix Us.
Navigating my health care has been the hardest part of life after the NFL. Mostly because, when you’re a player, there is nothing to navigate. The NFL itself is a health care system. Every day, you stand in the middle of a circle of specialists, all of them studying your every move, collaborating with one another to optimize your performance. It is your job to heal.

And through all of it, nary a health insurance form or signature is needed. Nor a phone call. Or an email. Or the setting up of an appointment. Or the calling of a new doctor. Or the researching of a specialist. Or an explanation of benefits. Nor of deductibles. Not a single iota of the red tape of modern health care is explained or introduced to the athlete.
Football money would be easy to save if you had a skill teed up that would immediately start earning you money in the real world. The problem is that the system prevents that skill from being developed. You leave the NFL with no other skills. The sport requires too much time and too much obedience to prepare for anything else. This begins at many colleges, where the physical and mental demands of football leave no room for real-world pursuits. And if a player is able to build any academic momentum, it hits a wall the instant he gets to the NFL.
But who would pay for it? This will, of course, be the hard part. But I believe it would be cheaper than expected, largely because many former players won’t go to the doctors no matter what. They are unreachable. Total Health Care could be funded in its entirety by the NFL, but would likely take a good-faith investment by the players union as well. Whether by increasing union dues or diverting existing revenue streams, the NFLPA might consider realigning its values with those of its constituents—past and present—and not the fat-and-happy opulence of the union’s D.C. headquarters, which has become complacent and content with the lucrative status quo.

I appreciate whoever scheduled today's games to be the Bears vs the Lions and the Cowboys vs the Redskins. The first sounds like a great Roman spectacle, which is fitting for our modern gladiators. And the Cowboys vs the Indians on Thanksgiving? That's just too good.

If Baker Mayfield can take the Browns to the playoffs next year, Cleveland will build him a statue. If he can win a playoff game, they'll make him the new LeBron.

Sounds about right. All the Bengals fans around here - it was like a funeral when getting humiliated by the browns. Might finally be enough to dislodge Marvin Lewis.
