To those uninitiated in the Fallout series, there's a perk called The Mysterious Stranger that you can take and what it does is have a figure suddenly appear and help you out in fights at rare, random times.

Re: Video Games!
So I dove into Fallout 4 again and was looking up various mods to use when I came accross this.

Re: Video Games!
Divinity Original Sin 2 is pretty solid as RPGs go. Lots of fun ways to do things. The last fight is nigh unwinnable I think tho, having tried it 15 times or so so far.

i really need to finish numenera
it's very well written and interesting but the combat sucks balls and it gets confusing quickly.

Revisiting Pilotwings on SNES. Always found it enjoyable but dammit, don't make me land in a crosswind if you're not going to give me proper control over *all* the control surfaces. Can't move the rudder independent of ailerons.

In the game it looks like a 30s biplane. But cool, I learned something today as I had not heard of that plane. I appreciate the idea of simpler controls but I just can't fathom actually flying unable to control yaw independently of roll. Not a pilot though so maybe it's not as big of a deal as I think.lunchstealer wrote: ↑18 Jan 2018, 14:46Was it an Ercoupe?dead_elvis wrote: ↑18 Jan 2018, 14:23Revisiting Pilotwings on SNES. Re: Video Games!
Apparently an amazing new update patch is coming out for Stellaris. So I've been jumping back on this week.
I was fighting off aliens all the time just a few months ago. Expanding human space. Liberating species. Uplifting species. Sometimes through boring head on attrition fleet battles. Sometimes baiting fleets into following me into systems where I have FTL jammer equipped battle stations.
Now? Now I'm terrible. How could this have happened? Now I'm JasonL* on this game. Getting my ass handed to me. Every. Single. Game.

It may be some months before that patch.Pham Nuwen wrote: ↑18 Jan 2018, 20:01Apparently an amazing new update patch is coming out for Stellaris. So I've been jumping back on this week.
There have been some patches recently, though, if you haven't played in months.
Myself, I've yet to win a game. I either end up a well-liked satellite to a major power, sitting pretty in a corner until the endgame crisis happens, or just squashed.

Re: Video Games!
I've been playing Darkest Dungeon. It's basically a turn based dungeon crawler with some interesting mechanics. It has a very Cthulhu-vibe to the whole thing. The art gives it kind of a Hellboy feel to it as well. You send in parties of adventurers in to loot and explore. Along with the normal health/skill/level stuff you have to deal with you also have to manage people's stress levels. It's like a sanity meter. So if a character is pushed to far they go kind of nuts and develop various mental affiliations and derangements that can drag your party down. Managing that is a lot of the game.
I will caution that it can be extremely punishing at times. It's a rogue-like so there's no going back to your saves if a party you send through gets wiped. Because of this it can be kind of grindy at times.
Trailer:
Gameplay:
At 3:50 is when the dungeon crawling and combat starts.
At 14:20 you can see what happens when a character overloads on stress.
Re: Video Games!
I landed on Sins of a Solar Empire rather than Stellaris because I wanted the heavy RTS style, and the game holds up. I'll probably pick up Stellaris after this big update, so I can get the heavy Sim/RP/Strat game play.
Re: Video Games!
I don't really like Stellaris. It seems ok at first but it has that feature where any mistakes you made may not be apparent for a hundred hours and hey look its too late haha. Also I find the middle game boring after a point. Once borders basically get established its hard to progress in a fun way.
Re: Video Games!
Did you ever try the revamped Wasteland(s)? I think there's two of them now.

Re: Video Games!
Mid game is where it's at for me. I see your point but that's when I start having real fun. I take three worlds off one empire. Maybe two off another. I'm mainly after resources*. Not really the worlds themselves. But I'm big on battle stations and defense platforms. Funnels them to you on your terms. But it's hella expensive. It's why I really never did battleships unless I get thermal lance or something silly like that.JasonL wrote: ↑19 Jan 2018, 10:50I don't really like Stellaris. But I suck now. Apparently. Otherwise the AI has been updated and they see through such masquerades now. Which still means I suck. I'm using way more outposts than I used to back in the day.
