Fucking dog racists in the UK. Pits are “banned breeds”. Thankfully for the paperwork, she’s a hound mix, which is in about 40% of her old papers.

A guy from the local geek group needs a place for his cat to stay for two months (he's between apartments that allow pets). We are going to take him in. The cat, that is, not the geek guy. David is thrilled because we're getting a cat and I am thrilled because we're giving the cat back when it's done. (Y'all know I love cats but I am also up to my eyeballs in small creatures needing me to feed them and clean up their poop, so I have put my foot down on any more pets for the moment. But Temp Cat is okay.)

Ha! Well, we'll see. I'll give you another year of "Warren was right" sig space if I end up getting a permanent cat in 2018. :)

Temp Cat arrived today and I gotta admit, he is REALLY sweet and cute. I have missed cat skritches. Uh-oh ...

But I haven't had to deal with his litter box yet so that colors the picture somewhat

It only took me three hours to tell Temp Cat "I love you."

But then Baby Supply spilled his food and water all over the floor and I remembered why we can't have nice pets.

One of our cats isn't feeling well today, but we don't know what it is. Just being listless. But that makes my wife super mopey and worried about him. So I'm calling the vet in the morning to see about taking him in.

Took the cat to the vet, they decided immediately that he needed surgery for an infected anal gland. Turns out to be one of the biggest infections the vet has seen, but he should be just fine.

Glad you caught that in time, Highway. It's tough to tell with cats - they can be very stoic, but any behavior changes should be checked out.

Yeah, I thought he might have had a UTI, but this was a much worse and at the same time better thing. Definitely more painful and problematic, but likely less long-term problem now that it's caught and taken care of.

I'm so glad your cat is going to be okay! It is really hard to know sometimes if you should take them in.

Here at House Watkins, Temp Cat has not been seen since 5am. (Technically no one saw him then either, but the food was eaten out of his timed food dispenser.) I think he realized my children are monsters and is wisely hiding somewhere they will never find him.

Anal gland? Is that next to the Johnson rod?

When the vet describes the abscess as "Mount Vesuvius" it's probably good that he had surgery. Now he's got a giant open hole on his butt, but we don't have to do anything with it. But he's definitely feeling a ton better now than he was, you can just see it in the way he's walking around and engaged with his environment.

Yes! His current routine is to hide in the basement (or wherever he's hiding -- I think it's the basement) until I take the kids to bed, then come out and be friendly when David comes home, and disappear again in the morning. I get it. I've met my kids. I don't blame him.

Last night David slept downstairs in the living room "because of the cat." I asked, was he yowling at the bottom of the stairs or something after you went up to bed? "No, but he seemed lonely." That guy is such a dang pushover.

I got randomly curious about aquavit and picked up a bottle of Linie.

That is a remarkably smooth drink for the ABV.

And by way of follow-up, I finished the bottle in about a week, which is crazy-fast for me. It's just terribly easy to drink neat.

Will have to employ more caution as I try other aquavits.

Not to Grylliade too hard here but ‘familiar spirits’ in this case is about animal familiars, not spiritous beverages. I think the booze thread is a pinned thread on the joys of life thingy. Maybe what are you drinking? I think.
