Correct. Characters like that would fit the bill for Oliver's needs.

I never found Belushi all that entertaining. Animal House was his best work that I've seen, and even that was not all that.

Yeah. Animal House was basically all you had to see of Belushi. I never got why repeatedly playing an insensitive loudmouthed slob* in several films made him a 'comedic genius.' Like Jerry Lewis, he just played the same character over and over and over again.

I'd say that The Blues Brothers is a good addition to the American Lexicon of Popular Film. A SLIGHTLY different character in than Animal House or the Spielberg classic, 1941.

The Blues Brothers enjoys several advantages. Dan Akroyd being one, the biggest blues artists living at the time being another.

It's worth watching, but it's rather dated.

And the surrounding characters are good, plus the best car chase in the dark interregnum between The French Connection and Ronin.

Re-reading the above page, I just wanted to clarify that Animal House is a great comedy, but it was Belushi in that movie that wasn't all that, in case that wasn't clear.

John Oliver on Science. Good stuff.

Trigger warning for JasonL et al.: comedian trying to inform while being entertaining. DO NOT WATCH!

Did you know that Australia has its own Trump-like figure, and he's already been elected to office?

I don't doubt he's a giant douche and all, but the low-brow cheap-shots make me want to side with him.

I've been trying to watch Samantha Bee's new show on TBS. It's kind of painfully bad. I pretty much pretend to like it to promote domestic tranquility.
