I would be quite happy if John Oliver represented the median Blue opinion.

Even when I agree with John Oliver's main thesis, I still think he sounds like an ass and argues like a retarded orangutang.

Yeah, but so do I.

John Oliver on mandatory minimum sentences:

Do they pick all these still frames for the Youtube videos on purpose? I mean, yeah, John Oliver spends a good portion of time in that position, but to have every video with his hands and face in almost exactly the same position? Switch it up, guys!

That was a pretty good one. It would have been slightly improved if he had highlighted that many of the state laws were encouraged by fedgov, IIRC. Fedgov creates problems, then can't correct them is a pattern that plays out repeatedly.

1 Thanks for the nut punch.
2 Why am I hearing about this from John Oliver?
3 The end sequence was better than I expected.

Because apparently people only pay attention to people who pay attention to Radley Balko, not to Radley Balko himself.

I'd just like to thank the Cracked staff for watching the Trump SNL so I didn't have to. (Cracked is the same as John Oliver, right?)

Not actually Cracked's best work, but I love the last line of the 'please subscribe' pitch.

Cracked does some pretty good stuff. That wasn't their best, but not bad at all. Looked like they threw it together pretty quick, which is fine. It was even better when measured against some of their other overtly political stuff.

Absolutely the same, just like weathering is the same as erosion and hate speech is the same as fighting words and an exception to first amendment protections. :)

Funny you re-mentioned this. My cow-orker with whom I'd discussed this the first time around just came in and mentioned that he was working with a terrain dataset with a big area of karst topography next to an area where the topography was dominated by a large sandstone unit, and his first thought was, "Wow, look at how clearly you can tell the geology by the erosional pattern!"

John Oliver on the penny. Includes comparison of Guy Fieri with herpes, just in case the main topic doesn't grab you.

Yeah I fucking hate the penny. Hate that it's worthless hate the way it's made, hate everything about it. Even the nickle costs too much to make. But John Oliver doing his John Oliver and John Olivering all John Oliver like, makes me want to sit somewhere else.

I definitely feel that way about all change and, if I'm being honest, about all paper currency. I hate it.

I certainly prefer not to deal with currency. But I don't hate it as a concept. Coinage that costs more to produce than it's face value is another story. And if you must make coins, the whole point is durability. Zinc pennies are an abomination.
