The fact that most of the indicted officials are in the Latin American leagues (and none from Colombia) is going to give FIFA diplomatic top cover. It's easily spun as the Damn Yanquis going after our boliviarian revolutionary heroes.

This data is so extreme, it could have a walk on part in the Point Break remake (and makes me question the methodology)

I think so. I just read the original WaPo article, and it seems that's all the migrant worker deaths in Qatar since the bid, not just the ones associated with World Cup construction. Which still means Qatar is a horrific hellhole for manual labor, but its not a fair graphic.

But also, how bad do you have to be for National Review to be praising the Obama Administration Loretta Lynch Justice Department for going after you.

Somehow I doubt that a dude named Webb from the Cayman Islands is going to get much play as a boliviarian revolutionary hero.

But how bad are you when the Swiss are playing ball against you for your financial shenanigans? You are literally worse than Hitler!

Someone on twitter said that Mitt Romney is the most qualified person in the world to depose Sepp Blatter and turn around FIFA, and they're right.

While I agree it's a good idea, it'll never happen. The rest of the world will not let an American take over soccer. It's the one sport they have that we don't.

That's actually surprising, given the tone of his address after being reelected, which was as open a "Fuck you guys, I'm still in charge, neener neener neener" as I've ever heard from a public-facing official. His resignation address seems a LOT more what I was expecting.

Nate Silver and Daniel Drezner have both written about creating an alternative to FIFA.

The most interesting thing about that Nate Silver article is that Japan is the most World Cup crazy country. I didn't see that coming.

FIFA's movie United Passions opened in 10 theaters in the US this weekend. Total revenue: $607. Six hundred seven dollars. One theater reported a two-day gross of 9 dollars. One guy came to a matinee show...

The amazing thing is that this means Thomas Kretschmann has been in a worse movie than Argentina's Dracula.

FWIW, Canada is currently hosting the Women's FIFA World Cup. I think the US is one of the favorites.

The only thing that is mildly interesting to me is that games are being played from Vancouver (where the final will be played) to Montreal. That means the players sometimes have a four hour flight to get to their next game.
