Yammering about this shit on the internet is how one avoids inceldom. Gets it all out of one's system so it doesn't leak into real life conversations.

I'm reminded of how the reputation of SF fans is "guys who can't get laid" and yet how much outright debauchery, up to and including orgies, happens at any sizable convention.

(Admittedly, not as much as at some professional conventions. Those guys go nuts.)

Yeah, bathe daily and have a modicum of social skills and a willingness to strike out a couple times, and it's hard not to get laid at a good-sized con.

That modicum is even adjusted on a curve for con people. It's a teeny tiny modicum, far less than normal life situations might require.

Per people that work in the hotel industry, con people smell like ass, especially if they wear a costume.

I am reminded of the possibly apocryphal story of two con participants who decided to engage in some bondage play in their hotel room. Unfortunately, they decided that a great place to hook handcuffs to was the fire sprinkler pipe. The con was not invited back to the hotel the next year.

Yup. That's why some people go to cons with a box of soap and literally start handing it out to the smelliest folks.

(I never found it a problem because, duh, hotel room. Shower right there.)

Though the more scantily-clad cosplayers probably smell less bad, especially in summer cons. Last few times I went to Dragon*Con, which takes place in frickin' Atlanta on frickin' Labor Day weekend, the most sensible people might have been the Cruxshadows fangirls (aka the "Cruxshadows fairies") in their gothy only-actually-more-than-lingerie-about-half-the-time outfits.

Why? Heat or just too many people packed together?

Music nerds (and sports nerds) are still nerds.

I order a batch of these from Vistaprint every year and drop off stacks of 'em at the annual long-weekend gaming convention I go to in Portland. The years when I bring 'em, the elevators by Sunday are non-awful. The years when I don't, they're not. So I reckon they're working.

There's a certain quality of shut in to old school record collectors.

Yeah, it's like "can you have a conversation involving at least 80% non-staring at her tits eye focus? Don't even have to be looking at her, just not at anything below her neck for more than a few seconds at a time? Then you're good."

That's why it's 80% instead of the usual 95-98% in genpop. They get insecure if you don't look at all.

No that would be... no wait, he was the 70's. Eddie Murphy? Hmm... Maybe he was.
