Maybe the croc didn't start moving until the prey hit the water. Not sure about what I assume is a Nile croc, but alligators are very good at sitting very immobile hidden just under the water with just their nostrils and eyes clearing the surface, waiting for prey.

I'm guessing that it saw it but didn't think it could get back to the shore fast enough, so it just went for it.

Looks to me like it might have been moving as fast as it could, like the water was too deep for anything but swimming. You'll notice that once the eventual-victim animal gets to a certain point, it stops jumping and just starts moving the same way as the other.
