Thanks. I'm not especially familiar with either. I have a vague memory that coyotes might be interbreeding with other canids.
Coywolves are a thing in the Northeast. They're in 4 of the 5 boroughs too.
Yeah, the theory is that they are incapable of reproduction with wolves in their original territory, but that they expanded into the east and came into contact with a population of wolves in Ontario that was compatible and created a very successful hybrid population.

I thought it was a fox too. Though it looks too large. Hard to get a sense of scale though. Also, I can't imagine a fox taking on a donkey for any reason save it's kits were in danger.

Oh, and that's a ladder-backed woodpecker.

Pretty unlikely to be a ladder backed woodpecker since I'm quite a distance away from their range.

Also, the markings are wrong. You can't really tell that from the photo, however.

Is it predating or scavenging?

Where are you? I saw one in MO a few years ago.
The markings on the pic you posted match ladder backed over downy in every way.

On reviewing the Audubon bird field guide app, it appears to be Nuttall's woodpecker, not downy, contrary to my previous guess.

Below is a range map for ladder-backed woodpecker. If you saw one in Missouri, it was lost.

I saw what I think might have been a female or an immature male common yellowthroat near work today. I'm still not 100% sure about the identification, but it had a really intense sulfur-yellow breast and few other distinguishing marks.

*googles* Oh ho ho. Interesting. Ah but I see it's west of the Rockies. Yeah, CA has a lot of birds I'm not familiar with.

It had definitely roamed far afield. But the thing about those range maps is, they're more of guideline. Lots of things like high temperatures and drought can drive birds into new areas.
