The most telling thing about sweet tea, to me, is that my mother very carefully orders unsweet tea, and then adds like three packets of sugar to it.

But she can't drink the sweet tea because it's too sweet. So how much sugar does that have?
Just about enough. For humans and hummingbirds.

A&W is 10x better and same price.

A test - preferred ginger ale? There’s a wrong answer here as well...
In order of descending preference:
Ginger People
Bundaberg
Reeds Extra
Virgil's
Reeds Regular
Vernor's (now we are getting into plastic bottle territory)
Canada Dry (only at 30k feet)
Sadness and despair.

It's a flatness and weight and sweetness that is all out of whack to me.
Are we talking about the same Vernors?

It's literally the exact opposite of flat or sweet by comparison to other ginger ales. If you inhale just before drinking it you get a ginger aerosol distributed through your lungs that leaves you coughing in pain for a solid five minutes before you can go back to drinking it.

Of course, take that with a grain of salt, because I like good old Bleinheim ginger ale, although only the 'mild' version. I don't have the stones for the 'regular' version which is basically going for the ginger/soft-drink alternative to Dave's Insanity Sauce. Nothing I've had anywhere else comes close to their mild.

Pretty sure if you hold up a cup o vernors next to a cup o schweppes the vernors looks like maple syrup and has corresponding beetus characteristics.

Vernors has about 10% more sugar per serving than Schweppes, but that's probably to offset the higher gingerness. I haven't had Schweppes in a long time though. Canada Dry has about half that sugar, but even less gingery.

But Vernors is pretty much the only sharp ginger ale in the mass-produced-soda aisle, unless I'm completely misremembering Schweppes.

Schweppes for m in the ginger ale I had as a kid visiting my grandparents. Canada Dry is what I had when I'm sick, so drinking it makes me feel sick.

Ginger ale to me is a palette cleansing light refreshing thing. Can be high or low ginger but it can't be low acidity or sweeter than mean. Vernors is syrupy.

The foodstuffs I had when visiting my grandparents remind me variously of filterless camels, whisky, or the sugar coated servings of passive aggressiveness and barely suppressed racism you get from ol timey country folks. So, maybe that's vernors for me.

Vernors is the correct wrong answer. It's monstrously worse than other ginger ale, in a way that to my taste matches the way Barqs is worse than everything else in rootbeerland. It's a flatness and weight and sweetness that is all out of whack to me.
Ah I see the problem here.

In cola and fruit soda land, most any brand is fine.
With root beers, cream sodas, and ginger ales, premium stuff is available at premium prices. For the amount of it I drink (i.e. seldom) it's well worth it if I can get it.

I used a Bisquick pizza dough recipe from the Betty Crocker website, and it didn't turn out anything like "classic" pizza dough but I enjoyed eating it about 10 times more.

Bisquick isn't bad if you limit it to pancakes, waffles, and biscuits.

Puppies are not food!

Idaho teacher accused of feeding puppy to snapping turtle charged with crime

(it's not in the article but another source said the puppy was terminally ill and was going to die anyway)

While it obvs was a horrible idea, I have a hard time getting past that it would have been a-ok to feed it any number of other animals and no one would bat an eye. Natures recycling of biomatter does not care about cuteness, cuddliness, emotional intelligence or the pleasures of having one's face licked. I'm simultaneously horrified (I just can't even imagine having to watch that, it's hard enough watching a snake eat mice) while thinking, well, kids should have to confront this shit someday anyway.

Team falcon?

I'm really not down with feeding live puppies to turtles, though, even if it's terminal. That's just an awful lot to unpack. Although pugs it might be an actual mercy....

I would be surprised if the snapping turtle needed live food.
