I've started listening to FSCK Em All by T. Greg Doucette. He's a crim defense lawyer that reminds me of Radley Balko, but with a bit more attitude. Unlike Radley, he offers several nut-punches a week, commenting on crim justice cases and politics in general. I've only listened to a couple, so I don't know if he ever has guests on. The ones I did listen to, it was only him.
Sounds interesting. Got a fav ep?
I've only listened to a few. The one before his latest was right after Charlottesville I think. That was the one that made me subscribe.

Weigel is an excellent addition to the 5thC crew. He's got his fingers on a lot of pules. He brings a great 'I'm not one of your tribe but I know how you think and I can talk to you in your own language' perspective.

Really? He didn't strike me that way at all. And I often find that to be the case when non libertarians talk to libertarians.

He's definitely that way in person nowadays. Wasn't when he started. Pity.

I'm not overly sensitive to it in general, but he strikes me that way in written and spoken word. Can't put a finger on why exactly.

The printout face is Adam from Cum Town. The other hosts are notoriously mean to him in silly/dumb/ironic ways, so one of their friend's re-enacting pushing him down stairs and running him over is kind of a natural extension of that.

I'm trying a few episodes of Chapo Trap House, and it's hard going. There's the two guys who say stuff, then the guy who sounds like Brad Pitt in True Romance burps loudly about "BUT THAT'S BECAUSE THEY SERVE CAPITAL! BAH!", and they all chuckle knowingly.

So why not talk about that for a minute? /JustAskingQuestions

The Gorka impression guy is good, but otherwise that show is as tiresome as you'd expect.

It was pretty funny last year, but after the election it went up its own ass. The best thing is the dramatic reading series of David French, Rod Dreher, Ross Douthat etc.

Just started My Favorite Murder from the beginning. I really want to like it because it's about true crime and seems very popular, but it is driving me up the wall so far.
  • Main reason: the two hosts, both women, have this unfunny-sarcastic, uptalking, "oh tee hee I don't know what I'm talking about isn't it hilarious how ignorant I am of this issue that I knew I would be talking about and brought up on purpose" style and it's SOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING.
  • And seriously, if you don't know a fact, either calmly say you're not sure or just pause to Google that shit and then edit out the gap later. Just giggling about how little you know is not charming.
  • Tired, bog-standard liberal rant tangents.
  • SO QUIET. I have to crank the volume on my phone all the way up and still hold it right next to my ear just to hear it.
  • Way too many goddamn ads (at least 6 per episode, each at least 45 seconds long) that are way louder than the podcast segments.
  • Apologizing for their own shtick. Look, I get it, there's a little awkwardness at first around the fact that the more gruesome a crime is, the more enjoyable it can be to learn about. But after 4 episodes you shouldn't still be doing the same "it's great, no it's horrible, it's my favorite, I'm so sorry, it's terrible" song and dance EVERY TIME.
I'm not sure at this point if I'm hoping it gets better or I've crossed over into hate listening. Either way I'm not going to do the sensible thing and just find a podcast I actually enjoy. That's crazy talk!

That would have been funny but for the gratuitous swearing. "Let's use swearing to point out this was funny! That's a good technique!"

From the 32 seconds I listened to it, that's the whole of Cum Town, swearing and body fuction jokes, endlessly.
