What are you drinking?
Re: What are you drinking?
I've been almost exclusively drinking Off-Color Brewery Troublesome for about a year now, probably. I think Off-Color is really hard to find outside Chicago, but if you do find it you should try it.

A couple of new things. While in CA I picked up a sixer of Lagunitas Aunt Sally. We get Lagunitas up here but not the full range. Quite tasty, sour but not too sour and the hopping is a bit more than your average pale. Think of it as a slightly bitter Berliner Weisse.
Also stumbled across a relatively inexpensive Hendrick's Gin substitute, Hixon Gin. It has that same cucumber/floral profile so yeah, kind of wasted in a classic gin cocktail but fine for G&T or stuff designed for it (i.e., involves sliced cucumbers).

I actually like Hendricks for martinis. I just have to use a straightforward vermouth. I tried using one of the really herbal ones, and it was just...too much.

The excellent (Danish brewer/founder) NZ brewery 8 Wired is doing their seasonal Australian hops West Island IPA again. God damn it's good. Galaxy plus a couple of others.

Apparently they sell 50% of their production to the (brit/us/antip) xpats in Hong Kong and China.

It's gin season again! (Just in time for it to get cold and rainy again.) And that means Breuckelen Distilling's "Glorious Gin". It demands a very clean, not-sweet tonic, though.

Would Fever Tree work for that?JD wrote:It's gin season again! (Just in time for it to get cold and rainy again.) And that means Breuckelen Distilling's "Glorious Gin". It demands a very clean, not-sweet tonic, though.

There's a few good NZ pilsners/lagers, but most of the craft ones are still firmly in "crank up the hops so we don't have to make a good, consistent batch of a subtle beer" territory.

Fever Tree is good, although I think I have a slight preference for Q. I'll have to A/B them against each other some time.Eric the .5b wrote:Would Fever Tree work for that?JD wrote:It's gin season again! (Just in time for it to get cold and rainy again.) Re: What are you drinking?
Had one of these last night

Was worried it might just be a marketing gimmick but while it's not a great English Bitter it's pretty good IMO. I can see why some reviewers think it's a little bit watery, but it's got plenty of bitter malty flavor for only 4.7 abv. Good beer for those times when you're plunging headlong into certain death but you want to keep your wits about you.

Local bar got a mead in. I was surprised having always thought of meads as being heavy. A lot like honeyed prosecco to be honest. Over ice, nice patio sipper.

As Jason states, iiiiiiitts baaaaaaaack! At least temporarily. Tastes less flavorful, and more orange-y than I remember though.Mo wrote:Did you dig up a time capsule from 1997?Kwix wrote:Reliving my 20s:

Never tried it. Howzit?
Re: What are you drinking?
Very good. Nice and smooth with sweetness, citrus and herbal notes and a slight pepperiness.

New favorite beer is Lattitude 33's Blood Orange IPA. Orange is noticeable but subtle enough and not cloying. Little strong at 7.2%, but very refreshing tasting.

I like to keep it under 6% ABV. Anything over 6.5 and I'll pass out after just one.Sandy wrote:Taste or alcohol content reasons?Warren wrote:I'm out.dead_elvis wrote:Little strong at 7.2%

Re: What are you drinking?
So I'm in New Hampshire for a few weeks and, as one does when one is in New Hampshire, I have to try everything maple related. Had a can of kanc country maple porter (Woodstock Inn Brewery). I don't taste any maple in the least. Decent porter though.
