Saw a couple episodes. It hasn't quite got to Legend of the Overfiend level of demented but it's in the nearby vicinity. The animation style, which is nice to look at and has a kind of broad almost cartoony style, actually takes a lot of the edge off of it.

Granted, I've seen a lot this stuff over the years and may have just gotten desensitized to it all.

Hey the Alienist is an original story about how there are killers among us and to know them, to know their ways, a psychologically trained investigator must stop at nothing, he must become that which he despises. I'd never seen anything similar before. Not ever. Also, good call on imposing a sense of familiarity by making it look like every jack the ripper take ever, but placing it in New York so you can have Copper McDrinky everywhere. The wooden acting really seals the deal.

I thought three seasons of Gomorrah were already out, but I can only find two. If you are fluent in Italian, the show is probably better than The Sopranos. Even if, like me you can only say "Un mezzo litro di vino della casa" it's still pretty good.

Since the third season isn't out, I gave Narcos a try. Reading the subtitles is even worse since half of it's in English. I'm three episodes in and it really does look like the protagonist is going to voice over exposit the whole show. It's like books on tape that you have to watch! 88% on Rotten Tomatoes? WTF critics?
