I have always wanted one of these things:

Image

And they brought them back into production last year. Yay!

But they're building them EXACTLY like the originals, and so the price, while below the $1,495 they could go for in the 70s in inflation-adjusted dollars (just shy of $10K), at $3500 I really couldn't justify buying one.

And now they're going out of production again. $%&*$%&!

I have a lovely little monosynth with better specs, memory, all the goodies, but of course none of them are the Mini.

$20,000+ for one in decent condition. There are currently none for sale anywhere I can determine, if that tells you anything.

Yep. You can buy one of their modulars for as low as $10,000 now, too, but the decent sized one is $55,000.

Well, I was going to make a jokey post about what "decent sized" means and what this thing might cost...

Yeah, and they made the last of those. They still have some System 55s, though.

I kind of wonder if it was some sort of way to process the signal differently, something like the speaker load affecting the sound out of a tube amp.

Literally just for decoration, playing various images.

Full specs for the system can be found hier.

List price is now $150,000, but I know they have manufactured and sold the last one already. I'm guessing Hans Zimmer has one...he has one of everything.

It was really unusual in that it actually had presets--modulars are literally independent modules that you patch together manually to control the signal flows. In this case I think there was some behind the scenes wiring for the presets so they could be dynamically controlled (and then overridden by a patch cable).

The Minimoog was their first one that had a semi-hard-wired signal flow, which is why it was so much cheaper (and smaller).

And yes, they also produced a Micromoog.
