When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am

(Also posted in Music for the Masses) It doesn't surprise me that some people here had not heard of John Prine before. He had a modest but loyal fan base and was considered, like Leonard Cohen, a songwriter's songwriter. However, he was somewhat marginalized as a country musician or, not much better, a Roots / Americana musician.

Anyway, if you wanted to spend a half hour or so listening to streams of his songs, here are some of his best / best known, one or two of which you'll probably go "Oh, he wrote that?"

"Sam Stone" ("There's a hole in daddy's arm where the money goes")
"Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore"
"Illegal Smile"
"Angel From Montgomery" (Probably his most covered song.)
"Hello In There"
"Christmas in Prison"
"Dear Abby"
"Please Don't Bury Me"
"That's the Way That the World Goes 'Round"
"Speed of the Sound of Loneliness"
"Paradise"
"Crazy as a Loon"

When he gets up to the pearly gates I hope he has something better than a flag decal with him.

I hadn't heard about it until today, but Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne passed away two weeks ago.

John Conway. A name that is probably not familiar, but those that know their computer history (or had a version of the game pre-loaded on 90's era PC's) may know him as the inventor of The Game of Life.

Well apart from having a show together they were married for 60 years and literally begat Ben Stiller so yeah in every sense of the word.

And, not to speak ill of the dead, but I never thought they were very funny. They were survivors of the Borsch Belt, night club and TV variety show era and I saw them dozens of times on TV and can't remember a single joke or occasion when they made me laugh. For that matter, IMO, the jury isn't in on Ben yet, either.

To be fair, Jerry was good in Seinfeld, but I'd guess that was because of the writing.
