Huh, didn't remember that he was in Days of Heaven. Scanning through IMDB, other than Right Stuff that's the one that is a stand out.

Oh poop. Been fond of him ever since ACGaS reruns on the local PBS station 40 years ago.

Heh oops.

Yeah just the show. Still, it feels really weird to be watching the last few episodes.

That was a long time coming. It's one of those deaths you pretty much have to feel good about finally happening.

Almost feels appropriate after seeing last night's grotesquely pompous pre-game video for Alabama vs. Florida St. to wake up in the morning and find that Walter Becker passed.

To be honest, I don't see the connection with the game. "My old school" reference?

At least I bit to see them a few times. Three, I think. Drugs are a helluva drug.

"They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues"
Fagen: “Walter and I wrote ‘Deacon Blues’ in Malibu, Calif., when we lived out there. Walter would come over to my place and we’d sit at the piano. I had an idea for a chorus: If a college football team like the University of Alabama could have a grandiose name like the ‘Crimson Tide,’ the nerds and losers should be entitled to a grandiose name as well.”

Becker: “Donald had a house that sat on top of a sand dune with a small room with a piano. From the window, you could see the Pacific in between the other houses. ‘Crimson Tide’ didn’t mean anything to us except the exaggerated grandiosity that’s bestowed on winners. ‘Deacon Blues’ was the equivalent for a loser in our song.”

Oh, yes. Thanks. I'll have to have a lot of Steely Dan playing this week. But not playing with a steely Dan. No.

Deacon Blues was my favorite song in the 3rd grade. I'm sure I didn't understand the overall meaning at all, but even at that age I was drawn hard to its melancholy.
