Just to be clear, All Dogs Go to Heaven is the only Burt Reynolds movie I have seen.

It’s kind of about dogs dying. It’s reallt just a kids movie about dogs.

Also lived cable-free until I was in my mid 20s. I'm not sure I've seen any of his big screen stuff, certainly not all the way through. He was kind of ubiquitous in certain small-screen guest-spot circles in the '80s though.

Claire Wineland, YouTube star and cystic fibrosis activist. The (self-centric) reason it particularly jumps out is that I'd literally heard of her three days ago when a friend shared a video on Facebook, and I was thinking "She seems a little annoying but her message seems cool and I should look into her work more" and then yesterday she died.

Burt Reynold's movies were occasionally very good but many of them were bad then and aged badly. Reynolds wasn't a 'serious' actor, nor was he a great comic actor. What he was was a guy with a great deal of screen presence who neither in real life nor on film seemed to take the whole thing very seriously. Yeah, he had a few major dramatic parts and he did well in them. But mostly he was a likable guy, the sort of guy women found attractive and men wanted to be like or at least to have as a friend.
