They almost certainly can't be in-network, and Canada does NOT just give free non-emergent-care to tourists and very recent immigrants (when my employer was transferring my job to Canada one of the things they pointed out was that they were including three months' medical insurance to cover the gap until I was eligible for Canada's single-payer system) so I'm not sure this has a lot of bearing on nationalized healthcare. He's gotta be paying out of pocket, which is pretty much the libertarian ideal.
The point isn't "he's being socialist," the point is, "according to the principle he outlined, he's availing himself of slave labor, and going into a system he has described as inferior to do it." In Randland, this is no different than Russians paying for North Korean labor.
He probably drove on the roads to get there too. Fucking hypocrite.

A presumably private, cash-only Canadian hospital operating outside the system is hardly a violation of his principles.
It's private, but neither cash-only nor outside the system. They're grandfathered in, so they take private and public insurance both.
“This is more fake news on a story that has been terribly reported from day one — this is a private, world renowned hospital separate from any system and people come from around the world to pay cash for their services,” Cooper said in an email to the Courier Journal.

FWIW: American visitors who use the Canadian health care facilities are charged the full going rate. No 'neighbourly discount.'

One difference is that the prices are controlled - there are no $100 cotton swabs or $15 aspirins. So the cost could well be cheaper than in the US.

Well it's not accidental. His rhetoric is more or less consistently libertarian compliant.
It's follow through that disappoints. Which I think could be said for most all pols.

Cui Bono? Infectious diseases can cause, among other things, blindness (more money for eye specialists) and brain damage (more votes for the GOP). The only thing that vaccines don't cause is autism, which is a real shame from a libertarian perspective.

It's bad enough that he decided to talk to Breitbart at all, worse that he said he'd buy Ilhan Omar a plane ticket to Somalia so that she can learn to appreciate America more.

Dude has been kind of a general tool lately. He was one of two Senators to vote against reauthorizing the 9/11 first responders healthcare bill. Even if you are concerned about Federal spending (and there are plenty of bills he's voted for that indicate otherwise), that is not the bill to make your stand on.

I'm opposed to initiation of violence, however, if someone else were to punch him in the face over that, I'd at least nod approvingly.

As a medical doctor, Rand Paul should know how risky it is to block your airway by keeping the president's dick permanently lodged in your throat.

This argument is the new smart-dumb of the trumpistas. Sheryl Attkisson long formed it in the hill.

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house ... no-not-yet

The critical element of this argument is you pretend “we’d like to influence your human rights policies” is similar to “I’d like you to investigate my political opposition”. It’s fucking dumb.
