Just... can't wrap my head around the appeal.
You don't find the prospect of watching two ignorant, usually poor men trying to render each other unconscious for the entertainment of others appealing? How odd.

I find mlm empowerment stuff on social media just a hair below medical quackery and anti vaxxing stuff on the depression-rage o meter. If you are buying product from each other to hit goals it's a fake business model generating cash for people at the top. Like less than 100 people in the world.

No no no, they will be very quick to point out that a pyramid scheme is illegal and has no product. MLM HAS a product (that you have to buy to qualify for discounts) and if you work really hard, Warren, you too can sell enough of this real product that you LOVE to become a millionaire and realize your dreams. Or, you know, level up to diamond status as you go into bankruptcy, whichever. It's important that you cut the haters and doubters out of your life because they don't believe in you. Not like I do.

My mother in law has started selling MLM cleaning products. I initially thought she just got into it because she likes the products so much and this was a way to get some for herself at a discount. But no, she's expecting to make money off the whole setup (albeit only a bit of extra cash, not, like, enough to pay the mortgage). The company obviously feeds sellers a lot of social media fodder to use in flogging their business, but my mother-in-law is your standard old-person-awkward when it comes to Facebook, so her posts are a fountain of secondhand embarrassment.

The tips are blunted and you are still required to wear armor. The only sports I can think of where you wear as much protective equipment are football and hockey. A lot of effort is put into making it not actually stabby. And it's literally sportified combat training, so yeah, martial art.

Grrrr... this caused me to discover that Netflix has booted Columbo, which led me to also find that they've booted The Rockford Files. I fucking hate Netflix. I wish they would just raise prices instead of constantly fucking with their inventory.

Netflix isn't the one that gets rid of it. The rights holders are. Me, I just cycle through different services and quasi binge.

I'm sure the rights holders are easily swayed by money.

I'm just disappointed because I thought (back in the day) that Netflix's streaming was going to be like its dvd business. The long tail and all. They clearly don't give a shit about that, and unfortunately no one else does either.

Just heard the author of the below-linked article looking into MLM schemes in general and Lularoe in particular, especially the physiological tricks used to keep people hooked: https://qz.com/1039331/mlms-like-avon-a ... al-crisis/

Psychological, not physiological, though they are related phenomena.

Nearly all sales rely on using psychology, but mlms do pervade the lives of those who join.

Oh my. Right, psychological. That's what I meant. Pressed the wrong autocomplete under heavy sunlight while picking up lunch. Not a dumbass. I swear...

Oddly, I dislike borscht but do like beets. Pickled beets are fine. But honestly it's hard to top simple roasted beets with butter.

I actually like the taste of canned sliced beets. Haven't really had any other type.

I've had borscht and it was the least offensive way to eat beets, but still kind of tasted like dirt.

I went to an Ethiopian restaurant and got a "veggie platter" that included some sort of cubed beets. They were just weird.

Wanted potato. Only have beet. Not really beet, just red dirt shaped like beet. Life is sad.
