Well, vocal fry isn't an incredibly healthy way to talk. Over the long run it can damage your voice, which is why classical singers try not to use it despite it getting you deeper into your low register.
What kind of damage are we talking about? Because checking online, I'm seeing everything from "traumatic lesions!" to "no real effects unless you, maybe, shout a lot while using it".
The damage could be anywhere in that range, because everyone's susceptibility is different. Some people are very resilient, other people are more likely to develop problems.
How many "other people" are actually going to suffer problems, and how bad will they be? Because this vagueness sounds like a scare extrapolated from "singers shouldn't sing in this register" to "ZOMG talking at a normal volume in that register will ruin your voice!"
Is there any case you can point to? I'm thinking of Louis Armstrong. I don't know if his gravely voice is technically creaky voice, but he lived to a ripe old age and his voice only got sweeter.

FTR I have vocal fry every morning until about 10 and longer if I drank the drinks in the previous evening.

Is there any kind of scare? I thought it was just Jadagul observing that it's not particularly healthy. And it's one of those things if you try to do it, you can tell that you are doing something with your vocal cords. I figure physically, it's a similar case to singers screaming. Maybe it sounds like you want it to, but it might have consequences. I think the more "social" issue is that it is something that women do more frequently, and it affects the perception others have about them (that they are less assertive, or less capable, and thus aren't hired).

I'm pretty sure I don't use creaky voice for work stuff, at least not 90% of the time. I do use it but it's like, if I'm making a joke that requires a certain kind of voice or something. I use it for emphasis I guess. It's not my actual Serious Work Speaking Voice like it allegedly is for a lot of women.

Yes, it comes up in every other article on it, something mentioned in the very article we were talking about.

The entity that calls itself Tony and lives in this kid's finger also suffers from vocal fry.
