Re: The Sheriff Joe Arpaio Memorial Prison Reform Thread
In anticipation of what will be the worst pardon in presidential history (OK, maybe Nixon was worse, and Trump will be more so), I heard an Arizona Trumpian Congressthing in an interview this morning, talking about how Trump is going to "restore the rule of law" to which the interviewer asked, "do you think Arpaio should be pardoned?" Predictably, this fragile respect for the rule of law gave way to the Congressthing's whining about how everyone was out to get poor wittle Joe and how the mean old Obama Justice Department was picking on him.

I haven't formed any firm opinions about Greitens. He was a Navy Seal, which really does speak well of his character. He's got some scandal buzzing around his money. He froze business regulations with an executive order. And he signed "Right to Work" into law.

This is the sort of bullshit people will use as an excuse to limit the pardon power.

Which he already said. Explicitly. Now he's just making good on his word (figures his first time following through on a promise would be something awful like this).thoreau wrote:This basically says to every law enforcement officer out there "Go ahead and kick some ass. The old man has your back."
Also, he's going to need the loyalty of his security forces local cops when he starts locking up dissenters. Ask me if I'm being hyperbolic...

Also, do "serious conservatives" not know the difference between a commutation and a pardon or do they just have a "but Obama" reflex?

Both of them.
