BitCoin futures will be available on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Institutional money is about to flood into BitCoin.

WOW What a fantastic interview.
Best deep dive into the financial systems and their inherent problems I've heard in years.

Good interview. There is no real "wall street" view though. Lots of people hate clearinghouses. Lots of people hate the way liquidity is achieved through essentially micro debts and loans to fund instant things that aren't really instant to clear. There is tremendous value to lots of people who would prefer instant exchange of value. The plumbers of the current system are the hostile parties, but that's kind of small group. My company has had a blockchain working group for 2 years and we are testing concepts.

Sure there is. There may be no "real" Wall Street view, but there is certainly institutional inertia and tribal knowledge undergirding the business models of JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and the like.

BTC is soaring ahead of segwit2x.
But the more I read the more it looks like segwit2x is going to be an altcoin trading at a fraction of BTC at best.
The miners really want it, but developers and users are pushing back. This is going to be the first real test over whether the crypto can sustain market forces in the face of central authority.

Don't forget your PIN!

A tale of doing something stupid and redemption. And a reminder that even things that are supposed to be super secure are probably not really.

Always good advice.

Did you do something with your avatar dead_elvis? Suddenly any page with your avatar on it never finishes loading, and your avatar never renders.

Haven't touched a thing in my settings. Should still be Milo Bloom.

Ooopsie!

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/arti ... -hard-fork
According to a blog post released by Parity on Tuesday, the code that fixed the July bug contained another vulnerability. That vulnerability allowed a user known as "devops199" on GitHub, a site for developers to collaborate on open source code, to allegedly accidentally trigger a function that turned the contract governing Parity multisignature wallets into a regular wallet address and made him or her the owner. Devops199 then killed this wallet contract, or, as Parity put it, "suicided" it. This made all multisignature wallets tied to that contract instantly useless, their funds locked away with no way to access them.

If the story is true, it seems like Devops199 was jiggling door handles and when one door opened, they tried to close it and the whole house exploded.

The last 12 hours have been exceptionally volatile. A hard lesson in trading discipline. I've been on the wrong side of every trade I made. I sold all my BitCoin Cash under $1k (most of it under $500)*. For a while there I thought I might be in serious trouble. Now I'm just sad at the money I didn't make. Kept trying to make up for the last stupid move by making an even bigger stupid move.

As of yesterday, when Jeff and I stopped to buy gas after a grocery-shopping trip, the immigrant-owned gas station/convenience store nearest to my distinctly downscale apartment complex has a "Bitcoin accepted here" sign in its window. That's the first time I recall seeing a Bitcoin acceptance sign in a non-Internet context.
