Thanks, Eric. And everyone else. too. I've written more detail in the Sekrit part -- working on a followup blog post which is now also going to do CYA duty, just in case.

An existing customer is coming in tomorrow for a meet & greet & quick tour to discuss a potential project with my division. However, my VP & co-owner of the company has been called away on family business, so now I gotta play host with the most. I hate this crap. I went into R&D and not sales because I don't like schmoozing with people. Especially on such short notice.

Why do bathroom stalls in the airport open into the stall rather than out. You have to figure out a way to open the door with your carry on in the way.

Probably so people walking by the stall don't get smacked by an opening door.

Solution: doors that open out, but play a warning sound automatically when the door opens, like those oinking cookie jars.

My beef about airport bathrooms is that they set the sinks too far back into the counter. It's reasonable to expect that a lot of people who travel might have bags slung over their shoulders- which then end up in the lake of water in front of the sink as you lean over to reach it.

So the TSA guy this morning announces to the line to put keys and phones and stray metal bits into one of your bags, rather than in a little bowl. "it's safer! Yesterday a woman had her things stolen from a bowl!"

Great, so we're at a security checkpoint crawling with officers and cameras covering every square inch from multiple angles and... you admit that?

So much for feeling warm and fuzzy about the TSA after just seeing Get Out a couple nights ago ;)

The job of the TSA is to keep you from bringing stuff onto the plane. If a thief takes something, you won't be able to get it onto the plane.

But usually the handicapped stall opens out, which means that the architects recognize the issue.

Snail mail spam. No, there is no universe in which your shitty re-finance offer qualifies as "Financial Documents Enclosed" as you state on the outside of the envelope.

The outside-of-the-envelope-labeling arms race between a company wanting to fool you into opening their junk mail while not training you to throw away their actual bills is a sport for the idiot olympics.

I use a thermos flask for water (it keeps it nicely cold, even if I leave it in a hot car, which helps me actually drink water). Today, I dropped it on a sidewalk, and the bottom is now dinged enough that it leans over to the side and tips over at the slightest bump.

Worse, it'd be $3.50 more to buy a new one (now $18.50) because I got it on sale back in August.

I may have to try bashing the bottom more level, though the crenellations on the bottom are dinged, so it doesn't look like it'd be as stable as it once was.
