The main hold up now is going to be the history of Nixon's year-round DST and the fact that the US Congress needs to pass a law to allow it.
I'm sure you mean Ford.

So, I'm ignorant here but why does the U.S. Congress need to pass anything regarding a state's choice of timezone? The grand wiki says:
Wikipedia wrote:Uniform Time Act of 1966...
The law does not necessarily require that all states observe DST. Individual states may exempt themselves from DST and observe standard time year-round by passing a state law, provided:

if the state lies entirely within a time zone, that the exemption apply statewide, or
if the state is divided by a time zone boundary, that the exemption apply statewide or to the entire part of the state on one side of the boundary.
Thence HI and AZ.

Throw in a $100 billion weapons program and it's virtually guaranteed to pass. Call it "Billie's Law."

Fuck DST sideways with a splintery fencepost. The idea that time effectively goes backwards causes no end of problems with automated systems where things are supposed to only monotonically increase, which is why I'm posting this in the middle of the night, at what is either 1:55 AM or 2:55 AM.

I wonder: suppose a woman pregnant with twins went into labor tonight; the first baby came out at 1:59 am EDT, then the second one came out five minutes later at 1:04 am EST. Would there be any paperwork problems regarding which twin is the oldest?

Hooray hooray! The evil DST has ceased its destructive wrath upon the land and now lies slumbering in its winter's den. All God's children may now roam about day and night, free from fear of the creature which sucks an hours life from its victims.

I've changed my clocks, but I haven't changed my 'personal' time yet. That is, I got up this morning at 5:30 by the clock - which was physiologically 6:30. I intend to keep this schedule for another week.

My reason is that I have a series of days where I have to get up 'early' by the clock and it's less strain on my body if I simply keep the body rythmn on the DST regimen for a while longer.

Daylight Savings Time is proof that people can rationalize going along with anything no matter how stupid that is imposed by the government.

Come tomorrow it will be physically impossible to walk the dog in daylight after work. To walk the dog in daylight I'll have to get up early and go out at the coldest part of the day. Yay you guys you beat the dread dst now we're all liberated to live in more-or-less perpetual darkness unless we get up super early.

If you go to bed when you're sleepy and get out of bed whenever you feel like it, DST isn't a particularly significant issue.

That actually depends on how off-normal you schedule is.

Some things close at 5 PM.

And things will close at five tomorrow, too.

At some point I have to set an alarm so that I get up before then.

If I don't set alarms, I tend to drift towards going to bed at like seven or 8 AM, and getting up at like 4 PM. Which makes it hard to actually get to places that close at five, although obviously if I get up at 4 and then immediately put on clothes and leave the house I can make it.

But it's easier to just set alarms for like 2PM or something. Even though that still means I'll wake up tired and have to force myself to go to bed early.

If I am truly untethered from the clock, I wind up going to bed around 3-4 am. As things are, I still need to keep more standard hours for the sake of keeping in sync with the SO.
