I should clarify, my actual preference set is crappy benefit levels funded by forced savings with real differences in retirement lifestyle funded by elections to save - so I'm not at this point going to get rid of social security or replace it with personal accounts. I just don't want it to be anything other than an old age anti poverty program - not "this is how you retire" for most people.

Mixed with the bad side of an unconscionably long wait, at least the hold music sounds like the theme song from a 70s cop show.

You don't have to be a fan of Canada Revenue Agency or the IRS to approve of this:

Another 16 call centres linked to CRA scam busted in India: RCMP

The same call centers do IRS scams in the US.

I don't know if a jury verdict counts as government's good side.

Finally, a heartwarming shutdown story. My favorite part is the prisoner payday part.

Judge Rules Terrorism Watchlist Violates Constitutional Rights

I suspect this will not actually kill it, even beyond appeals, but it could be the beginning of the end.

I don't find any part of that "heartwarming".

I've been moved to work-from-home starting Monday, and all my plans towards separating from my spouse and moving out have been put on hold. And I'm trying to stay sober. I think if the local government didn't require an assload of building permits, I'd be spending the next six weeks trying to stave off insanity by getting a Home Depot credit card and trying to finish the basement all by myself.

Good luck, Ellie. A ton of companies are putting out "content" to try to help people right now -- Headspace put up free meditation stuff, health-oriented brands like RXBAR are putting up free workouts you can do at home, Arnold is also doing workouts on Twitter, I've seen people making free ebooks available...hopefully some of this helps!

Tentative thumbs-up: NYC Department of Nicole Nemesis is giving out three free meals a day to anyone who shows up to their "meal hubs". I just hope they don't fuck up the crowd hygiene situation.

(If they're already taxing people to buy the food and pay the cooks, why not, after all. And this helps address the problem of institutionally-packaged foods and ingredients sitting unused in warehouses while retail shelves are scanty in a lot of places.)

I'm sure there's a horrible catch, but the passage in both houses and likely signature by Trump of the Great American Outdoors Act seems like a good thing.

The Senate overwhelmingly approved a major conservation bill worth billions on Wednesday. The Great American Outdoors Act provides a stimulus ...
It's a fucking horrible thing.
