I have been observing lately that it's a good thing that Entenman's chocolate covered donuts come in a package of 8, because it's a lot more of a deterrent to think "I shouldn't eat 8 donuts in 2 days..." If they came in 4 packs I'd probably eat 2 boxes a week.

I've never had a moon pie. I should try one on my next hike. Maybe one of those to substitute for one of the 1-3 snickers I eat daily while hiking.

Moon Pies are kinda crumbly. I don't think they'd pack especially well.

You all are Eddie, the Shipboard Computer.

Moon pies are tea.

Which is to say,

He told them about how Moon pies are homemade by a friends' mémère. About how, usually, you have asked for petit cochons, but she made those yesterday and you ate them all up, alors...

Moon Pies are like chicken pox or the cartons of the 1980s. If you were exposed as a child, you're ok, but if you try to pick them up as an adult, you're liable to wind up sterile.

Have you tried Honey Stinger stuff? The waffles are pretty good.

I have, and I agree. I like them on day hikes, but they tend to get smashed into tiny pieces on longer trips.

This is not wrong.

They definitely get squished and crumble easily, so they're not robust hiking food.

It's either a growing up thing or a legit recipe change, but I find LD Oatmeal Creme Pies to be far too oily now.

Someone sent us an assortment of fancy cupcakes the other week when we got married, and one of them was this amazing choco-PB concoction, and I said "it tastes just like a really amazing Funny Bone" and dubs had never heard of them either!

My grandmother and great-grandmother used to always have them in the house for me to eat when I visited. I also had a special OCD method of eating them. I would nibble all around the bottom edge where there's a tiny extra crust of chocolate coating, and then eat the actual cake part.

I’ve always been a choco donettes guy. Had flirtations with star crunch and hohos, but the lil hockey pucks always seem to work when I’m feeling snack cakey. They are great dunked in Irish or bourbon cream too for the record. Entenmanns are the best expression of this of course.

I continue to not fear The Algorithm in its luddite memetic mutation sense. I actually like that, say, Google's music player notes that I've liked a number of songs by this vaguely retro-80s dance musician, and it tells me, "Hey, this guy is playing down the street from your office in the near future."

I don't want these bastards freely handing over this info to the government any more than I want the waiters at a place I go to merrily tell the cops everything they've gleaned from talking to me or whatever, but I like this information getting used to offer me things and opportunities I might like.

They're not as good as I remember them, when I've had them as an adult. Formula change, taste shift? Couldn't say.

Still pretty good.

Also, when I did a taste taste of a bunch of Twinkie imitations back when they went off the market for five hot minutes, most were better than Twinkies. Tastykake's "Dreamies" were the best, though—very nice cake, less greasy filling. I actually bought those again, later.

Almost no dessert, especially mass-market dessert, tastes as good to adults as to kids.

but OMCPs and Oreo DoubleStufs are still goddamned addictive even to my mid-40s lunchpalate. Moon Pies... not so much. I still appreciate them from a wallow-in-my-own-crapulence perspective, along with French creme twirl things, whatever those are called, but having Oatmeal Cream Pies or Oreo DoubleStufs in the house is just goddamned bad for me.

And yeah, almost everything is better than its Hostess equivalent.

Little Debbie's Swiss Cake Rolls are better than HoHos. Somebody does better filled-chocolate-cupcakes than Ding Dongs, although I'm not all in on that flavor anyway so it's not a big deal to me.
