I just saw a post about Luther's 95 theses, which were first posted on October 31, 1517.

Although Luther would have burned us just as enthusiastically as the Popes would, it's still an important day in liberty. His action shattered the monolith of western Christianity, which allowed the rest of us to weasel free through the cracks.
Tell that to the Orthodox.
I did specify western Christianity, which I take to mean the part under the control of the Roman Catholic Church.

And I agree, in Putinland, Church and State are pretty much hand-in-hand.

Fair point, although the Greeks may also want to weigh in.

Just imagine how different history would have turned out if the humbugs inside the Wittenberg Castle church had just ponied up the candy. Or if Luther had just egged the church like a normal person.

Somehow I missed all the 500-year anniversary stuff in 2017. Not that it seemed to be a huge thing, Googling.

I really like me undies but the lack of a dick escape hatch is a tactical issue for urinals I had not contemplated until today.

I like Tommy John quite a bit and their hatch is a mixed bag (sack?). It’s horizontal for top down access which is better in untucked mode but suboptimal when going button down and tucked in. Shirt tails form a horizontal access layer and mixing that with the vertical access layer makes taking a piss in the US sense more like a puzzle box than I’d prefer.

Exactly this. They barraged me with offers after I first purchased a few pairs to try, so I finally wrote back saying the absence of a fly was a deal-breaker. (I did not add this was especially so for men, um, of a certain age.) They replied they hadn't been able to create their boxer-briefs with a fly that was "up to their standards," whatever the hell that meant, but at least the promo offers stopped.

That reply actually makes sense to me. I have a mix of fly-ed and fly-less boxer briefs from David Archy. The flyless ones fit much better and are way more comfortable. Except when I'm trying to piss.

Can't you just pull the front down? That seems less labor-intensive than trying to groundhog it through the fly.

Team Hugh. Unless it was a button fly boxer, I never used the labyrinth that is the fly on briefs.

That's awkward if I'm not taking my pants off. Trying to hold my shorts down through the fly of my trousers is super obnoxious.

I never have much of an issue with it with briefs that have normal flies. Unfortunately, normal flies suck for everything else.

But maybe I should try just unbuttoning my pants to piss. Might make other things more convenient too?

No, because the elastic waistband is quite taut, so unless you're used to what I'm reliably informed is BDSM castration level tension on your nutsack, you have to maintain the band below your scrotum while holding your penis and, let's hope, aiming properly at the urinal. Mind you, we're talking about a specific brand here; I couldn't say about other brands of boxer briefs.

What kind of crazy elastic band are you using? Just take the whole package and flop it over the band. It's like a hammock for it.

Right? How'd you get them past your hips if they're that tight?

Well if you just keep buying the same sized underwear from high school, by the time you get to a certain age, you get some extra tension.

But srsly he's not wrong, if you're going the briefs or boxer-briefs route and have them not-saggy, they're going to produce at least a little pressure on your business, and at least for me that makes aiming and stream integrity a little annoying. It's fine if you've got a well-designed urinal at the right height, but if due to mounting-too-low or poor bowl design, you need to aim for specific spots to avoid backspray, even light tension on the soft-and-danglies can be disruptive.

But you have two hands! (I presume; tell me if I'm wrong) One hand holds elastic down and the other one aims if necessary.

I only choose to wear button fly boxers now. Uniqlo has some nice cheap Supima cotton ones that I have recently started wearing.

The ability to pee standing up sounds super-convenient, but after reading this thread, I'm not sure it's a worthwhile tradeoff.
